2. I have an alto, a soprano & a tenor
I voted tenor - I think it's the sexiest - sounds closest to the human voice.

7. I play alto, but I like the tenor best
Of course, I haven't touched one in years (quit actively playing in HS, when I got into the guitar), but I still like the tenor sound the best.

17. Moi aussi.
I used to have a nice old tenor, but it got killed in a car accident. (Never keep musical instruments in your trunk when driving in areas where drivers are confused about what brakes are.) Being a po' college student at the time the insurance cash all went towards replacing the vehicle and not the sax. :(

I dig Bird and Lou Donaldson, but most of the Sax Gods I worship play the tenor.

3. Couldn't find a bass sax? Or an old C-Melody?
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 05:25 PM by IMModerate
I have a Dizzy Gillespie track which has Charlie Ventura playing a bass sax solo, sounds cool.

More than the sax it's who is playing it. For me it's mostly Coltrane, or Paul Gonzalves, or Johnny Hodges.

I also like Johnny Griffin, Jackie McClean, Marshall Allen, Abraham Burton, Bird, Newk, Prez, and Cannonball. Special mention of Earl Bostic and Junior Walker and Lucky Thompson for R&B fans.

11. Nice Selection
I have a real ol Conn C melody, I had to have it for how nice it's put together, it has a bit of the kazoo sound.

I have a King alto (I can't remember the model, it's overseas) that is sweet and light.

But mainly an ol Balanced Action with a rubber Selmer C that I like very much.

Bobby Rockwell with a Danish B3 player is coming to the Artist Quarter in St. Paul next weekend, should be delicious.

12. You remind me that the "Incredible" Jimmy Smith just passed.
His Hammond was a good friend to many saxes and guitars. I will miss him.

10. Hehehe, too true.
Same goes for trumpets (which you'd think would be a lot cheaper since they're so much simpler, but you can still spend thousands on a good trumpet).
