Poll question: What do you call Pasta?
Tonight, we drove past Mazzio's. The Marquee read: "Wednesday Night Special: All Spaghetti $3.99"
What's funny about this is that this includes everything from Spaghetti to Fettuccine to Penne.

So I'm wondering: Does everyone call every kind of pasta Spaghetti? Or is that just a hick Oklahoma thing?

2. Pasta is pasta. Spaghetti is a type of pasta,
and Noodles is the same thing as pasta but not of Italian derivation. So, if it's Kluski from Eastern Europe, - it's noodles. If it's soba from Japan, it's noodles. If it's campagnelle, even from New Jersey, - it's pasta.

and I forget what the little round ones that look like pinwheels are called.

I've never been to Oklahoma, so I can't comment on the latter question. We are not Italian, but when we go to Italian restaurants, they usually print out all the different shapes -- or at least the different names for the different shapes, so we get to know them. My daughter buys artichoke and spinach pasta (another complication, but better for your health).

Spaghetti refers just to the pasta shaped like long strings, pasta is the general category, I think.

14. Farfalle
I had someone speaking to me the other day who refered to it in conversation as "farfanalle". I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about!!! Finally, I understood he was talking about the type of pasta "farfalle"... so I corrected him. He grimaced. :D

Come on, I'm Italian, get the names of your pastas figured out before talking to me!

On Edit: She also said "gravy" instead of "sauce."

and i mix the cannibutter emulsion with cocoa, so that if anything sticks between your teeth, it isn't green anymore. good, so that's four walnuts, no plain.

"Paaaasta." They think they're so hip.

It's macaroni. Then it's made into different shapes which have names.

But it's all macaroni.

How hard is that to understand?

39. Past wasn't invented by the Italians...
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 12:08 AM by Dirk39
Pasta was invented in Asia and brought to Italy by Asians.
Although this doesn't mean, the italian food isn't among the best in the world..., but the asian food isn't bad either:-)
(The asian food, not the carricature that's often sold as asian food, but the italian food, esp. Pasta, we eat, is more than once just a carricature, too.)

I'm German anyway, I just did steal potatoes from the french...
Or who ever it was...

This is just a call for justice. Just imagine, one hundred years from now, DUers in the then empire China will start a thread about, how Japan did invent Fender Guitars and Basses...
Somebody would correct them, although the Japanese Fenders are better or nearly as good or equal to Italian Pasta...

Dirk
