Will someone PLEASE take my cough away?
I had the flu a couple of weeks ago, and my cough is persisting due to postnasal drip. 4,386 doses of cough syrup have had no effect. I'd SCREAM if it wouldn't make me cough!

1. I feel for you

I had that for a month in the fall. As soon as I went to the Doc it stopped, of course. Hope you feel better soon. She also gave me something called Mucinex. That worked pretty well.

2. Sorry to hear that, dude....
 If it's post-nasal drip, maybe try taking something that will dry up your sinuses? And hot tea with honey... Hope it goes away soon. It's been a nasty year for drawn-out sicknesses all around.

3. this happened to me and I had to get some MUCINEX from the store
it breaks up congestion - I got it at Albertsons; pricey big horse pills but it did the trick

4. Ditto for my cough
I have a sinus infection or something similar that's been hanging on four at least two weeks. The worst part is over, but there's still all that COUGHING! Even prescription drugs designed to deaden the nerves in my neck only provide partial relief. I actually lost my voice for the first time in my life from this illness (it's back, though).

6. You are in the hot toddy stage of flu recovery
Edited on Wed Mar-30-05 12:09 AM by MidwestMomma
If you are able to drink alcohol, brew up some sort of hot beverage such as herbal tea, add generous portions of honey and some type of whiskey. Drink and lie on the couch with head elevated. (If you can find some sort of marathon on TV to distract you from the cough, that's a bonus.)

I've been there and at some point the cough syrup just doesn't cut it.

Hope you're feeling better soon. The flu is so horrible.

edited to add: You can not mix the toddy with other cold medications. That would be bad.

8. Actually, you can skip the hot beverage
and just mix equal parts honey and 100 proof whiskey. Just take it by the spoonfuls until you feel better.

9. GO TO THE CHINESE HERBALIST.
For now, avoid beef, shrimp & cold foods. Stir some honey in tea and drink several times a day. When you get a chance, find a chinese herbalist, and ask their advice. The stuff in the pink box works well, but they may have other advice. Seriously.
