pleasantly SHOCKED at work yesterday

My boss gave me a "Spot Award." At the law firm where I work as a legal secretary, this award is for staff. An attorney or manager can nominate a staff member for a monetary award if s/he feels the staff member has gone above & beyond the call of duty.

Last month I put in about 60 hours in one week coordinating a project. I got lots of thanks from the whole team; I was grateful for that, and never gave it another thought. Everyone else worked their butts off, too.

Yesterday my boss (I work for four attorneys but she's the leader) took me and the other team members out for lunch to celebrate the project's completion. Turns out the purpose of the lunch was to present me with the news that I'd be receiving a Spot Award. I don't know yet how much it is ($100? $250?) but I'll get it on payday.

I got one myself last week.
Not from my boss, but from his boss.
The Director.
The big guy who also happens to be a really nice guy.
Nice little certificate, and a nice little check for a C-note.

Recognition is a good thing.
