CD to mp3?
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 11:55 AM by CornField
I'd like to take a song off a CD I own and convert it to mp3. I have no clue how to do it. When I did a search, I found all types of commercial software (with semi-large pricetags). Is there any good shareware/donationware/freeware?

Edited to add -- for Linux.

3. EAC + LAME

Get Exact Audio Copy and the LAME MP3 encoder (and use its --alt preset extreme setting) and you're set!

Not sure if they exist on Linux but they might.

4. As has been said, iTunes will do it for you
or you can download the LAME encoder. Google the name.

5. iTunes can also rip in AAC format.
Higher compression rate or something.

If you play it for a robot, he'll be able to tell the difference.

6. If you have a cd burner (which you'll need to do this)...
...didn't it come with some kind of software? Itunes would be the way to go as far as free software.

7. I use the current version of Goldwave
It's shareware, and comes with a batch conversion utility that allows you to pick the songs on a cd that you want and pull them off in one shot.

8. CDex or Exact Audio Copy (EAC) + Lame codec
That's my recommendation.
