I'm not sure if the lounge is the proper forum for this, so if it needs to be moved, please do.
Anyway, I just wanted to thank everyone at DU. I only started coming here right before the '04 (s)election, as I was sick and tired of not hearing the truth from our so-called media, and I didn't know much about politics. Thankfully, I found DU from a link at the Margaret Cho website.
I have learned soooooooo much since coming here. I love how there are so many different forums, and we have experts here in all of them. I'm so grateful for all the wonderful people in the Election 2004 forum who keep plugging away at uncovering the truth about what really happened last year. Your work is thankless much of the time, but I for one believe it makes a difference. I'm also grateful for the GLBT forum, because I'm gay, and sometimes I feel like the world is crumbling down around me, and I'm glad I'm not alone. And the LBN forum is just fabulous. I don't know how I survived without it.
I've also been able to use DU as a source to help educate my Republican parents. They really are good people, just terribly mislead. I think they are too afraid to look at the truth, because it would just shatter their reality. But slowly, I've been able to make some very good progress with them, and I think they might be coming around. They may not accept me or my boyfriend, but they certainly accpet Jesus' teachings, and the blinders are finally coming off about Bush's behavior.
So, come pay-day Friday, I will finally be able to write a check and make a donation.(the whole Bush economy-thing has made things rather difficult here.) It's the absolute least I can do!
At the risk of bordering on sappy, you all make everything much easier to cope with. We live in such scary times, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes the truth really does hurt, and reality isn't always pleasant. But I'd rather go through life with my eyes opened, and know that there are others out there who are just as concerned as myself.
Better times lie ahead for all of us. We're getting there, one person at a time. :toast:
