20. I saw.
It's just hard for me, the movies are awesome, for sure... but there are so many things missing and so many stupid things that were changed that shouldn't have been changed. It's hard for me to shut my brain off and enjoy them. x(

23. you're not an anal purist, are you?
I've been on some LOTR forums that have people SHREDDING the movies apart for every little thing.

26. Not anal.
I understand that things had to be different, movies and books are very different, but there were things he changed for no reason.

Like Faramir for example. In the movie he is tempted by the ring, in the book he is never once tempted. Nor does he capture Frodo and Sam with intent to take then back to his father, he doesn't capture them at all!

What Peter Jackson had Faramir do in the movie, goes against the character completely.

27. ah ok
yeah, he may have done that to test his character, to fill time? but probably as an excuse to have Sam's speech, which is really good.

29. yes, yes
I'm still amazed at all that Tolkien created: an entire world with different races and languages, which he made up.

31. Those purists are wretched
Seriously, Jackson's LOTR adaptations are as good as genre films get. I'd like to see these Tolkienites try their hand at such an endeavor--it would look worse than Bashki's version.

i would love to do that one time. I'd also love to watch the first 3 seasons of the West Wing in one sitting, which would last almost 60 hours.

12. it really fucks with your head
like when i was halfway into the 3rd movie i said to myself "dude...you've been at this for the last 10 hours and you still have 2 hours to go"

it really wasn't that bad...mostly cause i kept myself just real high during the whole thing...otherwise i don't think i would've had the attention span to make it happen

18. because the books are so long
Tolkien wrote in so much detail and plot that it's hard to shorten the movies too much.

Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 12:32 AM by Revolutionary_Acts04
No, it's not easy to shorten them but it is easy to change things that don't need to be changed, keep in stuff that could be cut and leave out REALLY important shit! Damn you Peter Jackson, I love you for making the movies and I hate you for making the movies! x(

Edit typo.

25. yeah, but you have to understand the limitations of movies
There's a ton of stuff that Speilburg should've taken from Jurassic Park the book, but left out, or changed. Why? because it would have brought the energy of the movie way down, or forced the movie to be 4 hours. There's just some stuff in books, that while exciting or important, does not translate well to movies.
