2. Central Park....but then, I'd have to eject lots of people...
fly in some grape plants, that sort of thing.

Also, I'd have to find a way to deal with winter...hmmm. Pack up the whole thing and head to Florence then?

Far enough inland or high enough on a mountain not to worry about tsunamis.

This.

Not this.

8. Roatan, Honduras
In fact, I would like to retire there, but a Repub friend told me to go "where there's good healthcare."

OK, that rules out the US.

9. Italy, between Florence and the coast
So that both are easily accessible. Near San Giminiano would be great.

On a hillside, looking over the gorgeous Tuscan countryside.

The perfect place to sit and sip vin santo whilst dipping cantuccini in it.

23. Mount Fuji sounds wonderful but far away
My problem/advantage is that Japan is half way around the planet, whereas southern Europe is a short plane-hop away.

South of France or Italy would be ideal, long week-ends are perfectly feasible from the U.K.

Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 04:51 AM by aint_no_life_nowhere
Corsica is still fairly unspoiled and natural. It's simply a beautiful island and the bay at Ajaccio is splendid.

16. I'm no Barbie, but
I've always wanted a beach house and to design it myself. I'm leaning to ward California, somewhere out there. I'm supposing San Francisco is the most liberal place out there from what I've heard. I'd want the house to have a view of the bridge. Beautiful. I think that'd do the trick for me.

25. It's already built--I just don't own it!
Thoor Cottage, Thoor, Ballylee, Gort, County Galway, Éire

Thoor Cottage dates from the 19th century and is located adjacent to Thoor Castle, the former home of W.B. Yeats, who said " To leave here is to leave beauty behind."

The property which is approached by quiet country tree lined roads is surrounded by magnificently kept landscaped gardens.

There must be drawbacks--this one has been available for some time. Easy driving distance to Galway City & the coast. Many overly-modern places are available--but it's good to see the area my grandparents fled is doing better. And there are a few fixer-uppers...
