CONFESS!!! What album(s) can you listen to over and over again!!
Albums you can put in the CD player and just repeat the entire CD over and over again because it's that fricking good of an album.

Mine?

Obviously anything by Led Zeppelin except IV (I can only take so much of Stairway to Heaven and Rock & Roll - I'd have to program those 2 songs out in order to repeat play IV).

Lately:

Crush by Dave Matthews Band
American Idiot by Green Day

I've been listening to those 2 CDs constantly for the past 2 days. I love every single song on both albums!

1. Anything by the Beach Boys
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 10:07 AM by AverageJoe
from their earliest stuff up through and including The Beach Boys Love You. It gets a little dodgy after that, though there were some great tunes here and there on most of the rest of their albums.

And, since last September, Brian Wilson's SMiLE has hardly left my car stereo.

I'm thinking Kokomo Bay rates up there with Stairway to Heaven

6. I like Kokomo okay
Edited on Mon Apr-11-05 10:12 AM by AverageJoe
but it's on a later album that I couldn't listen to over and over. What I really like is their progressive material from about 1966-1976.

Really great Beach Boys albums include:

Today
Pet Sounds
Sunflower
Surf's Up
Friends
20/20
Carl and the Passions--So Tough
Holland
Love You

Kokomo is cute, but it's not the good stuff.

On edit: Had to add a couple of albums I overlooked...

74. Yep.
I don't think Kokomo is crappy, exactly, but it certainly isn't a classic Beach Boys tune. And the fact that Mike went out of his way to exclude Brian is simply awful.

As with any Zappa recording (especially early), it takes a bit of an aqcuired taste to appreciate it. Many people can't get through a single play.

98. It's got 4 sides
has everything from satirical takes on doo-wop to pure avant garde noise.

"Help I'm a Rock" is one of the funniest things on a rock album "ve ever heard.

"Hungry Freaks Daddy" is almost punk

5. Frank Zappa - Broadway the Hardway
This is from the Final Tour (1988).

Frank trashes the corrupt Republicans of the time period. It is hard to tell this was record 17 years ago. Many of those corrupt Republicans are back.

He also trashes the televangelists (Jim and Tammy, Swaggert). Again, all this stuff still applies today.

Cheers

17. I very happily saw Zappa 5 times on that tour...
My best friend was a SERIOUS Zappa head, and got me great tickets...3 in DC (all AMAZING), one in Philly (my friend actually got up on stage, and the whole Zappa family was in the row behind us!), and a couple of months later in Towson. The first four shows were amazing, HAPPY shows, but Towson was a nightmare...the band had been doing drugs & stuff, and Zappa was just PISSED...he cancelled the rest of the tour right after, and that was his final tour...

Zappa actually was able to make "Stairway to Heaven" interesting again!!!

112. I saw him 3 times on that tour ...
Albany, Rochester, and Syracuse. Somehow I missed the Buffalo show.

Albany was the first show of the tour. It was lame in comparison to later dates (in regards to Frank actually playing his guitar).

And yes, Stairway to heaven was incredible. It took me a while to realize that the horn section was doing the guitar solo.

Cheers

46. I know the clip you mean...
...it was shown on Top of the Pops. Dave Brock refused to have the band come on the show to lip-synch and instead requested that they film the song being played at a live concert. TOTP then synched up the footage to the single.
So....yep I am a huge Hawkwind fan.
I've recorded and played bass for Nik Turner on his last 2 U.S. tours and will be recording and touring with Harvey Bainbridge later this year.

After 35 years, I've never gotten sick of it. Fun House by the Stooges (if I could get rid of LA Blues), The Man Who Sold the World by Bowie, Quadrophenia by the Who are a few others that have lasted a LONG time without wearing out.

Lately, it's The Real New Fall Album, Mono/Stereo by Paul Westerburg, and disc 1 of the Brian Jonestown Massacre's retrospective.

"On your Feet or on Your Knees" by Blue Oyster Cult, and Led Zeppelin's first album are the two that have gotten the most play as of late.

81. That album
holds up very well. I enjoy the other takes of some of the songs on the Lennon Anthology.

I've read that Paul liked the Plastic Ono Band itself enough to write "Let Me Roll It" as a tribute. The funny thing is that it was about the best thing Paul did after the break-up. I have a live version that is very good.

88. The sparse production really helps it cut through
Sometimes John got too carried away with things. . .

I love all his albums and Paul's too - there is always a gem in there that makes it worthwhile.

But the poetry, emotion and power of every cut on POB always gets me.

96. I try to tell my sons
that all you need is an acoustic guitar and a piano. Of course, they think that I'm nuts.

Although most of the songs on the newly released "Lennon Acoustic" CD are from previously released material, it is still a heck of a collection. Both John and Paul sound fantastic to me with just a guitar. In fact, from the Beatles Anthology, some of the greatest songs are George alone.

Lennon's voice was best on P.O.B., one of the reasons I enjoy it so much.

..episode.

After watching "The Domino Effect" episode of Sex and the City, I finally had to look up on HBo website what the name of the song was at the end of the episode when Mr. Big goes back to being an asshole. It was a song by Zero 7. I finally listened to the whole album (I have a Rhapsody account) and the whole album is very good!
