Is it rude to lick plates, bowls, whatever?
Edited on Tue Apr-26-05 02:34 PM by redqueen
I do this, and was wondering if it's a bad habit I should try to stop.

Food tastes so good, though.

I like-a the juice!

3. It depends. Do you lick only your plates or others? Do you wait until
they are finished if so? Do you lick stranger's plates when you are eating out?

7. It's okay so long as you are
a cat or a dog. If you're human, I suggest you hide this habit.

10. I do that sometimes...
like with a yogurt container... that little edge thing I can never get my tongue all the way underneath, so I scoop out that yogurt with my finger. :9

9. My mother in law thinks I'm rude for something not quite as bad
I tend to use rolls and other bread products to wipe up extra sauce of all types off my plate. I never realized that this was rude.

11. That's not rude.
There is no way I'll ever accept that that's rude. That's just good sense!

Now what I do, that seems to be considered rude... but not sopping up the sauce with bread. No way.

12. You know, it may not be the height of etiquette, but lower still
in the hierarchy of etiquette is pointing out to someone who is doing something innocuous that their actions are bad manners is, in and of itself, bad manners. I hope you told her that.

14. The 'correct' way of doing that
(If you want to make Emily Post and Ms. Manners happy) is to accidentally drop a piece of bread or roll on to the plate and in picking up the dropped piece also sponge up the sauce/soup. That is considered okay.

Whoopsie daisies. :P

The drink from the finger bowl...by then no one will remember that you dipped your bread in the sauce!

17. I'm so wrong.
I do this all the time, in public.

I guess I have to stop. Or move somewhere it's not considered rude. :)

Though if you like the juice/sauce/gravy/whatever - that's what a good piece of bread is for. :D

28. I'd love to.
No sense wasting that good gravy or sauce when it tastes so good with bread.

And I agree with you - pointing out someone's "rudeness" is even more rude.
