What should I bring to a picnic?

... My g/f and I are going to catch a movie at Outfest tonight and I thought we'd stop and do a picnic at one of the parks in the canyons between here (the SF Valley) and there (West Hollywood). Too broke to go to a restaurant, so I thought this would be a nice alternative.

Problem is, my g/f doesn't particularly like sandwiches, which are always kinda the picnic staple. So, what are some other good things to bring to a picnic?

4. Well, then traditional fare probably won't get you anywhere
Can you give us a few hints as to some of the things she does enjoy, and maybe I can brainstorm up some picnic-worthy notions from that.

as are cheese, apples and a baguette.

UNless you are vegetarian, you can also take some nice deli ham or turkey, spread cream cheese on it and roll it around a nice steamed spear of asparagus. It's filling, not messy and tasty. You can also mix a bit of garlic powder or blue cheese into the cream cheese for flavor.

asparagus is on sale!

great cheese, marinated vegies (steam them for a few minutes then add some great salad dressing) and great wine.

on edit: How can I forget wraps. Buy a tortila or a wrap and make a wrap sandwich. Spread it with hummus or cream cheese, maybe add pesto, some cheese, some lettuce and you have a great picnic meal. I don't like sandwiches much, but I do like wraps.
