What Cell Phone Service does everyone use?
Especially those who travel a lot. I have Sprint now, and am looking to correct that error.

1. Well, there is no service that EVERYONE uses,
but I use T-Mobile, and I love 'em. No roaming charges, no long distance charges, and for the most part I get a signal everywhere except the hinterlands.

All the others are up in the 1.9ghz band, which has a shorter range.
Not so good out in the sticks.

They have no-roaming/no-long-distance plans too.

64. I use virgin too.
$20 every ninety days, or $80 a year.

If you actually use your phone, Virgin could be expensive.

I'm very much a luddite, and I hate phones. The only reason I have a cell phone is that my wife says it's the responsible thing to do. She has my number, my kids have my number, and a few other people who might never call me have my number.

My current balance is probably thirty or forty dollars. That $20 every ninety days sure adds up! Whenever my balance gets higher than that I figure it's okay to make a few frivolous calls.

It is an area on the highway that is about 1/8th of a mile long. Other than that I never have dropped a call. I guess it all has to do with where you are. I went to Texas last year and had no problems at all. And that was in a very small town down there.

constantly. He finally got sick of it because it was messing up his business and switched to Verizon. No more dropped calls.

In NEW YORK CITY for god's sake, the place that has like 900 million towers and satellites servicing it where I could sometimes, with AT&T (which I used to have) and with T-Mobile, get service on the subway.

38. Same here...
I can't complete a call no longer than 5 minutes before the call drops. I usually tell whoever calls me that "if we get disconnected it's because I have a bad signal". I thought maybe I need to upgrade to a better quality phone but my friends who have Sprint along with phones with all the gadgets have the same problem.

It takes 10 minutes of surfing through automated menus to actually find the selection of where you can speak to a live operator. I HATE SPRINT and have a 2-year contract with them.

28. I had Alltel. Unfortunately, I stayed in analog more than digital.
And they contracted with Centennial towers in some parts of the south--mid contract, Centennial changed their towers from CDMA to TDMA, which made my cell service obsolete in much of the region in which I travel.

I have had most of them and like it better than any of the others. I also have a weird problem and cell phones don't like my house. I have mentioned this to every carrier I have had and Sprint is the only company that actually tried to fix the problem. Now Sprint phones work in my house. So I will stick with them. It's also my hometown company.

I can call any Verizon customer in the country for free! It's great. They have more coverage in the United States then any other carrier, too. Great service.

They don't have the best phone selection though. That's their only weakness.

I've had AT&T wireless and Cingular, both sucked. And when they both merged, they sucked even more. Verizon rocks.

36. Here in Hawaii
Sprint is scorned upon. I don't have one friend that uses it - and those that did regretted having it as a carrier. My brother once had Sprint and his calls would drop right in the middle of the phone call. The weird thing is that he lives in Boston, one of the most wired cities in America.

T-Mobile is my carrier of choice - I never had a problem with them nor do any of my friends. Verizon is also popular in Hawaii as well particularly due to its wide coverage area.

58. I have prepaid too. I don't know why everybody doesn't
And I get a LOT of flack when I tell people how much I pay per minute. But then I tell them how much I pay per month and ask them the same. That usually gets the point across. I LOVE prepaid. I don't understand why more people don't do it. I'm not worried about being locked into some slimy contract. I'm not worried about accidently roaming or somehow running my up my bill without realizing it. If my phone gets stolen, well, that's too bad but it's not the end of the world. Plus, it's anonymous. Nobody on Earth can associate my phone number with my name. If you have a landline to talk in the evenings, and a work phone to talk in the daytime, why wouldn't somebody go prepaid? I just don't get or make that many phone calls when I'm not near a landline.

I have a phone on my desk, and I have a land-line (even though my pooter is yaking on it most the time)at home.

I guess if you're one of those people who just CAN'T get through the check-out line without telling 5 people you know (and all the strangers in line with you) the blow-by-blow of your last D and C, then a prepaid might be a bit pricey...

Even if I didn't have the landline, I'd still be able to talk for 3 hours on what I pay for a freakin' dial tone...

54. Verizon now
I had AT&T prepaid, but even though I had them signed up to debit my bank account when I ran low, they often didn't do it, and suddenly I'd try to make a call and get a message saying that I no longer had service.

I went to a cell phone store that handles all varieties and consulted them. We decided that Verizon would suit my needs, so then I tried to transfer my number.

Oops, wouldn't work. I couldn't transfer my AT&T number because my account had run out--they had once again "forgotten" to debit my bank account. The only way I could transfer my existing number was to pay to reactivate AT&T (non-refundable) and THEN transfer.

So I told Verizon just to get me a new number. I've been with them for over a year, and they're fine. They even downgraded my plan at my request when I realized that I wasn't even coming close to using up all my minutes.
