Speaking of Playboy, does anyone else remember this fine Repub?
an example of moral fortitude? Upright family woman? Posed for Playboy when I was a teenager; claimed to have had sex on the steps of the Capital Building?

Mods, I know you are going to lock; but it's no worse than a photo of Brittany Spears---really it's tame. Just another example of hypocrisy.

1. Rita Jenrette! For $64,000
Edited on Fri Apr-29-05 08:05 PM by autorank
She and her Republican Congressman husband (from Graham's old house district, I believe) liked to have sex in public places in DC and tempt getting caught. The Capitol steps (I presume facing the Washington Monument) were the scene of one of their fun-fests. DC and the Republicans were interesting at one point. Now it's all public denial from the ruling party and private, well you can just imagine (if you have the stomach).

19. I stand corrected. No there is no reason whatsoever to have any
respect for the Republican party. John and Rita were the party's only redeeming feature. What they did in DC is really quite difficult, being the nations capitol and all. NYC, SF, LA, New Orleans, Miami...you might not be noticed...but DC. Hats off to The Honorable John. Buy him a drink for me next time you see him.

Or maybe I'm too dense to understand what you're trying to say.

Regardless, I've never met Jenrette myself, nor ever wanted to. Did overhear some phone conversations with my friend where Jenrette seemed to be hustling for a loan, though...

23. Right, I'd thought John was and, given the outrageous of his antics,
that made me think that there might be some interesting Republicans. Didn't mean to be obtuse.

I don't know how to say this in an un-sexist way but Stephanie, my wife (for lack of a better non-patriarchal term), is great looking in her own right.

10. We've got to teach you the really good stuff Kleeb
Rita Jenrette, the former wife of Abscam-indicted Rep. John Jenrette,
has yet to hit it big in Hollywood, although with roles in such
blockbusters as "Zombie Island Massacre" and "Aunt Ida's Bikini Shop,"
she is doing a lot better than her former husband. He was back in
jail over the summer on shoplifting charges.

We were the Solid South once. Jenrette is a good friend of a good friend of mine. While a shitweasel, Jenrette was and probably still is a Democrat.

Mills Admits Being Present During Tidal Basin Scuffle

By Stephen Green and Margot Hornblower

Rep. Wilbur D. Mills (D-Ark.) yesterday broke three days of silence and denials by admitting that U.S. Park Police found him with his face cut after they stopped his speeding car near the Tidal Basin at 2 a.m. Monday.

In a statement issued by his Capitol Hill office, Mills said his face was cut from his eyeglasses, which broke as he tried to stop an ill woman neighbor, Mrs. Eduardo Battistella, from leaving the vehicle, which, according to police, had no lights on. Identified by police as Annabell Battistella, 38, the woman jumped into the Tidal Basin and was rescued after the car was stopped.

Mills, 65, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, said he had left his wife, Polly, home at her request Sunday night as she had a broken foot. He said he left to give a party for Gloria Sanchez, who he said was a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. Battistella and was visiting the couple from Argentina. Police said Mrs. Sanchez also was in the car.

<snip>
Reporters were told yesterday that Mrs. Battistella worked as a stripper at the Silver Slipper at 815 13th Street NW in 1973 under the name Fanne Foxe. She was billed as the "Argentine Firecracker."

Closed Session Romance on the Hill

Rep. Wayne Hays' $14,000-a-Year Clerk Says She's His Mistress
By Marion Clark and Rudy Maxa
Washington Post Staff Writers
May 23, 1976
For nearly two years, Rep. Wayne L. Hays (D-Ohio), powerful chairman of the House Administration Committee, has kept a woman on his staff who says she is paid $14,000 a year in public money to serve as his mistress.

Hays denies this, saying "Hell's fire! I'm a very happily married man."

"I can't type, I can't file, I can't even answer the phone," says Elizabeth Ray, 27, who began working for Hays in April 1974 as a clerk. Since then, Ray says she has not been asked to do any Congress-related work and appears at her Capitol Hill office once or twice a week for a few hours.

Currently, she is closeted in a luxuriously appointed office in the Longworth House Office Building behind a blank door. "Supposedly," she says, "I'm on the oversight committee. But I call it the Out-of-Sight Committee."

According to Ray, the 64-year-old congressman usually has visited her for sexual relations once or twice a week in their long-standing relationship.

25. I don't think this is bad
I would argue this is more tasteful than most posters of today. It's artistic.

Playboy also used to have good jokes, short stories, and annual polls of the best musicians. I don't know if that is true today. I was a child when my brother (literally) since he subscribed to it in the late 60's and early 70's. It also interviewed politicans and often got candid viewpoints.
