Poll question: Did you go to your prom?
my cousin just IMed me about how her's is tonight and and she's so excited and got her hair done and all and I just bitched about how I hate proms. I did not go to mine of course, I think they are a huge waste of time and money and I hate dressing up. I did go to the after prom party but skipped the actual prom, and have never felt I made the wrong choice.

1. Yeah. I was tripping on psylocibin mushrooms, so I don't remember
most of it.

I do remember going back to a friend's house later that night and watching "Raiders of the Lost Ark" until I fell asleep.

And the next day, I felt like total shit. Slept most of the day.

2. I went when I was a senior...
skipped when I was a junior. I didn't enjoy it though, the after prom was good. They had a velcro obstacle course that was fun (And I learned the dumb ass way that when they say don't jump down to the finish line.. they mean it.. I went flying in the air and landed flat on my back "grumbles"... I won though heh)

Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. I didn't go with a date for Sophomore and Junior years, though. Senior year my date was the shy swimmer from my physics class...I scared him =)

4. Three.
Sophomore year, with a junior. Junior year, with another junior. Senior year with a post-grad.

This makes me sound like a playa, but nothing could have been further from the truth.

9. No I didn't
Very difficult to find a date at an all boys high school coupled with non-socialization outside of a school and being very very shy.

Bad things man....

Very shy in high school. I was also on the recieving end of a s__t load of adolescent cruelty. Figured I wouldn't be made welcome.

Was this in the mid-80s?

13. They don't want me, I don't want them!
I certainly could have went, since all of my friends did and were begging me to go up to the last minute.

But what's the point? First off, it's so not my style. I never even went to homecoming games, why would I go the prom?

Secondly, I'm gay, and it's not like I could (or would want to) show up with a male date, and I wasn't about to go alone or with some girl I barely know.

But whatev.

I feel the better for it.

out with WTF kind of questions. Like, where the hell did he get a 30ish housewife to take to prom? ;)

I even have the dress from above..not really, but wouldn't that be cool.

Seriously, I applaud your decision. and I had an awful time at my prom. :hi:

16. Yes, three years
My sophomore year, I was dating a senior and went with him. I went the two other years too. At our school, it was free for juniors and seniors (We raised money through profits through certain sport's concessions stands).
I spent around $50 each year on my dress, which I didn't feel was inferior to the dresses which cost hundreds of dollars. In fact, I was complimented on my dress one year by a girl who had spent $400 and hated her dress. I wore my normal black dress shoes. I didn't spend extra money to have my hair done or anything like that.
Almost everyone went to prom. If you didn't go, it was considered a very bad thing.

Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 03:39 PM by khashka
I had two choices:

1. Ask the football player I was sleeping with secretly. No no no.

2. Ask the African exchange student who thought it was a silly white cultural thing.

So instead, I snorted way too much coke with my football player boyfriend (and exchanged more than a few blowjobs). Then spent the rest of the night doing mushrooms with that really hot African girl and engaging in long slow hallucinatory sex.

Best prom I never went to.

Khash.

(But when my little sister went to her prom with her first love.... I cried, it was so sweet)

23. I went...
I was a senior student at an all-boys' Catholic High school in New Orleans. I was also very closeted, and nervous about the, umm... pressure to 'perform' on prom night. No one suspected me of being gay, and life would've been hell had it somehow leaked. Very conservative school, yadda yadda.

So what did I do? I asked the Mormon girl down the street to be my date, knowing that her very very strict father would want her home early. It was a victory twofold for me: I got to being a very lovely, beautiful date to the prom.. and the pressure was taken off of my shoulders.

It ran pretty much perfectly. Her father, perceiving me to be a 'gentleman', allowed her to go with me on the date. In accordance with his wishes, I got her home pretty early (about midnight), and went on to a private party at a bar, where I danced drunkely with one of the football players I was crushin' on. Probably one of my more brilliant nights from a very tense four years.
:P

29. No, and mine's a sad tale ...
Mr. Tux (or wherever it was I was renting from) called me the week before as were like "Uh, sorry, but we messed up your order ... blah blah blah. Come back in and pick out another one." So I told my g/f and she was like, "Well ... maybe we should talk." Two and a half years and :pffft: it was over.

Then she decided to sleep with my best friend.

So, no. But, I am SOOOO over it, since it was 15 years ago.

I didn't hang out with anyone from my High School. I grew up on the other side of town. I should have gone to the other prom. The fact that I might have been high didn't help things.

I saw no reason to pay a ridiculous amount of money to listen to music I hated among people I had no use for. I had much more fun with my friends tripping in a tree. Much cheaper too.

43. I went to three. Yep, SLoOOOOOOOW learner . . .
First was when I was a junior. Went with a girl who was way out of my league. Got dumped soon after.

Second was my senior prom, which I had to get ASKED to by one of my punk-rock friends, as no one I asked would go with me. So we were like, "you want to go to laugh at everyone? Let's do it!" It was two weeks away and I got stuck with the cheapest-ass tux in the joint. Still, it wasn't bad, and she was a cool date.

Third was with some girl I dated in 1990 (one of the biggest mistakes I ever made). I didn't feel too out of place even though I was three years out of HS, because some of my metal buds were there with their girlfriends (ironically enough, the wife was one of them).

My sister is the prom ho - she went to four of them.

44. Yes, my best friend of a couple years, and friend of about six years
(and I'd been in love with her the whole time), begged me to ask her to go.

So, we went. We'd been getting fairly close in the previous month. Our relationship was evolving.

Then while we were dancing she said she wasn't sure if she wanted to be my girlfriend.

After we left we made out in the car for a couple hours. :)

 Yeah, I know.

why would I want to spend all that money to spend time with the "future GOPers" who stole stuff from my locker, slapped me in the back of the head and threw food at me on a regular basis?

On one prom night though one of the girls on my community soccer team had a cook out/ fish fry birthday party at her momma's church and I was invited there..... I can assure you that it was a much better time.
