10. The Pacific Coast Highway
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 02:40 PM by Pooka Fey
Driving North from L.A. - you'll start seeing the ocean when you reach Ventura, and then you drive through beautiful Santa Barbara. Then if you're not in a hurry, you switch from the 101 the PCH 1 and you've got the ocean on your left, and the lovely rolling green hills on your right.

If you're smart you'll pull off in Morro Bay, and hike to the coves to look at the tidepools. There used to be a seal playing in the coves when I spent a summer in San Luis Obispo that would call back and forth with me, while he bounced around in the waves. You might see some sea otters floating on their backs and cracking mollusks on their chests. Maybe if you're really lucky you'll see a whale or some dolphins.

Then when you reach Big Sur you'll be in a very sacred place. There are the redwood forests, lush , green, fragrent and quiet. That's another place to stop and spend some time.

Then you eventually reach San Francisco which is one of the coolest cities in the U.S. Visit the bay, visit China Town, visit Ghiradelli square, and make sure to EAT some fabulous meals and buy sourdough French bread.

Thanks - I love California - I grew up there but I had to move because it got too expensive for me. :-( Thanks for helping me remember how beautiful my home state is.

11. In-N-Out Burger,
Edited on Sat Apr-30-05 02:44 PM by Kathleen04

I live in New York most of the time now, but I love going there for the fries and pink lemonade when I go home. :)

Also love: palm trees, salsa in the refridgerated isle (no one here knows what I'm talking about!), views of mountains, the Santa Ana winds in Fall, beautiful "winter". Driving up to Lake Tahoe in the summer.

25. One of my senators, my congresswoman, the people,
the bay area, the weather, the big sky, the clouds melting over Mount Tam, the salmon from the docks, the smell of the sage, the gold of the hills in the summer, the green of the hills in the spring, the heron that flew over my head last week, opossum that lives under our house, the owls and hawks, but not the crows. They belong in Texas.
