5. Serge Gainsbourg
and even more so his bass-player during the seventies.

I would like to mention Jacques Brel, too, but I'm not sure, if he counts as a french recording artist?

Hello from Germany,
Dirk

36. Brel is Belgian
But any store that carries his stuff usually assigns him to the France section in the international racks.

Remember that little french baby who sang "It's tough to be a baby" ("Dur Dur d'être Bébé!")??? And the crazy music video with his parents changing clothes that would have never been allowed here in the US?

when they toured as part of Moby's Area concert series, Area One, I believe. They came on before Paul Oakenfold, and I was like, WOW. these guys are interesting.

30. Celine Dion ...
just kidding.

You should check out Les Nubians and their first album, "Princesses Nubiennes." They are an Afro-French duo who are the French equivalent (in my opinion) of Sade.

32. Paris is also the center of the African pop scene, the Francophone
countries, and while I don't listen to much French music, I do listen to a lot of African and French Caribbean music, like Zouk, much of which is recorded in Paris.
