Bernie Ward is great!

I've been a big fan of "Uncle Bernie" for many years. Besides his weeknight talk show, he does a Sunday morning show called "God Talk." (His shows are noted at the top of the DU page. M-F 10P-1A and Sunday 7A-9A on KGO 810AM in SFO http://www.kgoam810.com)

It's hilarious to hear him instantly eviscerate the "born agains" and other manglers of "God's word" who call in espousing their wacky view of religion and Christianity. Bernie's religious background (theology student, former Franciscan priest) really comes in handy when dealing with these people.

This morning, near the end of his show, he was trying to set one of these poor misguided callers straight, and he spontaneously came up with this gem:

"Fundamentalism is the worst form of religion. It's anti-intellectual. It doesn't want you to use the brain God gave you. They want you to check your brain at the door and pick up your crayons."

It's Bernie's quick wit and sharp intelligence that has kept me listening to him whenever I can from wherever I am for all of these years.
