Anyone like Parcheesi?

I've been playing marathon sessions of Parcheesi with my mother since I was very young. She still has the game set she got when she was a little girl, circa 1948 or so. I love that gameboard and the big solid pieces so much, I searched high and low and on eBay several years ago until I found one identical to it.

While my mother was visiting these past few days, we played a total of 50 games. She won 25 and I won 25. We figured we'd leave it like that until we could pick it up again.

Thirty years of playing this game with my mother has helped cement it in my mind and heart as "our" thing. My folks' last day here in town was Tuesday and we played nearly all day long. I neglected the laundry and made a joke about it, so Mom said I should feel free to do the laundry if I wanted to.

I didn't.

Years from now when I look back, it's unlikely that I will say, "Damn! I wish I'd washed those clothes instead of playing all that Parcheesi with my mother."

This is apropos of nothing, really. Just felt like talking about it. The house seems too empty now after their visit.
