PUT THE FREAKIN CELL PHONE AWAY AT THE BUFFET TABLE!
Damn! People are STOOPID!
We're at the local All You Can Eat Chinese buffet, two people from different parties serving their food while they have a damn cellphone either in their hand or tucked into their neck. The guy, phone in hand is trying to scoop food onto his plate with the phone in hand, and having a hard time doing it while talking loudly, with profanity, about going to the desert for the holiday weekend. At one point he was just SO caught up in the conversation he just stops and lingers by the Garlic Shrimp, yammering loudly about which coolers to bring on the trip. I wanted Garlic Shrimp and said "Excuse me". He then looks at me, puts up his hand like "stop, wait a minute", looks down to the ground and laughs to his phone-buddy. I said "excuse me" again and he angrily moved on.
Then this woman, phone tucked into her neck, loudly talking about clothing from May Co. Spilling food all over and having great difficulty maneuvering the plate around while fumbling with her phone. OK, so I get my food and right across the aisle from me is the woman, still yakking on the damn cellphone and eating at the same time, ignoring a teenage girl she was with. Sitting in back of me was the desert dude, with his family, still yammering about his 4X4 with a mouthful of food, IGNORING HIS FAMILY!
Cant people turn off or not answer the cellphone for a 30 minute dinner break?
I'm tired of hearing stupid people's loud and profane conversations while I'm trying to eat!

3. Why should those of us who use them to stay connected to the school
our kids go to have to suffer too? :(

5. I said "sometimes" MrsGrump. Sometimes. I have a cell phone. I don't
use it in a public arena where it interfers with someone else. It's just a technological convenience. I don't need it to feel important. I don't need it for comfort. I keep it primarily for emergencies.

7. I have used my in public areas, but I step away. My business is road
oriented so it's the only way I can be reached at times. I have just never seen them in that light I guess.

13. Cellphones are truly a technological wonder. They can also be a
*dangerous* pain in the ass. Watch someone on their cell. They forget which reality they're part of at the time. What is truly frightening is watching someone driving while on a cellphone. No wonder almost all major auto insurance companies are fingering cell phones as a major cause of auto accidents.

Then there's the jerk that feels the need to flip out his flip-phone whenever he/she/it has an audience of two or more. You don't care to hear about his digestive troubles? Tough luck. He's decided to forcibly make you part of the conversation.

Then there's the techno-tard that has to prove to EVERYONE that they're with it, BIG TIME!!! That's usally the same dink that has a 3000 watt amplifier in their car/truck and insists everyone listen to the same shit-kicker crap that they do.

Sorry, vented... it happens.

9. I spent 30 minutes in a library with my son's doctor. The comment was
not on the rudeness of the cellphone speakers that OP had to deal with, it was the curse of cancer (yes, in jest) on cell phone users. I have no shame in saying that my cellphone is my life (business and home) and I wouldn't be caught dead without it. And yes, you will see me on it in odd places, like city hall, the library etc... :hi:

4. Sorry about that annoying experience.
We have a rule - no cellphones in restaurants; we go outside if we have to call someone.

10. Well, then, he's just a pig
He'd have been having the same obnoxious conversation, presumably at the same volume, if he had been talking with his family.

I just hope that people get over the novelty of cell phones and settle down.

In the meantime, I've taken to hating everyone with a cell phone - including my family members. It's just more efficient that way.

11. Don't most cellphones
have a button you can push to send the caller directly to voice mail? That's what I do when I am involved in something (like eating in a restaurant - LOL)

I do think it's kind of arrogant to talk on your phone in public like that. Who is so important that everyone around them has to be subjected to their phone conversations?

12. Calm down.
You are so incredibly uptight and hurried.

Just do your own thing and relax.

Take a chill pill.

Stop whining. Slow down.

I see road rage in your future, unfortunately.

What's the big fucking deal?

Be cool.

14. You would have been annoyed too my friend.
It was bad enough I had to deal with their rude and obnoxious behavior at the serving table but then both sat right near me and I had to listen to their loud and profane conversations while I was trying to eat.

Road Rage? I was raised driving in Boston and now terrorize the SoCal freeways. Its second nature to me.

Peace!

16. I'm with you, maveric...
What you had to endure is unreal. Those people are thoughtless and arrogant. Emergencies are one thing, of course, but the sort of conversation that you were forced to overhear should not be happening in any restaurant.

You have my complete sympathies, maveric!

17. I'm generally pretty calm & laid back, but this just irked me.
Obviously the call was more important than dinner conversation, in a restaurant, with your family.

20. I don't even have one of the damned things.
Mrs R. does, and makes me take it with me when I travel on business, but whenever she says "you know, maybe we should get another one for you," I make the sign of the Cross and sprinkle her with holy water, just for insurance.

The LAST thing I need is for my customers (or anyone else) to be able to call me when I'm trying to pay attention to the road.

But then again, I'm one of those people who, back before answering machines were common, could actually let the phone ring ten times (or however long it took the caller to give up) and not answer it, if I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone right then.

something came up that had to be dealt with RIGHT THEN. And they were useful. We still have them, and use them on the road if necessary...Not the driver! They are great for emergencies or if you get lost...Or in my case, for reporting cars illegally in handicap places!

24. You report cars in handicapped spaces
that don't have a sitcker or placard?

Great!

One of my favorite bumper stickers (seen on a car with Handicap plates) is one that says "I'll trade my parking spot for your legs any day."

22. Ya ever have the urge to answer back
For instance, they say to their buddy "How ya doin'"

You answer, "Fine."

They look at you funny, and you just reply, "Oh, weren't you talking to me?"

I'd probably never have the guts to do it, and would probably end up in a fight anyway. But I've been tempted.
