I didn't think I would be interested....any musicians here???
but I had to take a music appreciation course.
Actually, it's pretty fun. The professor is a concert pianist.
Everyone seems to be having a problem with the concept of double and triple meter.
Any good explanations.
take care\tony and dietrich

1. No good explanations
but here is a very interesting page on rhythm in music that might confuse you even more (good website too):

2. Double meter is a simple one-two, one-two beat (two beats to a measure).
Triple meter is three beats to a measure, like a waltz. So if you listen to music and you can count ONE-two, ONE-two, it's double meter. If you can count ONE-two-three, ONE-two-three, it's triple meter. Does that help?

3. thanks
it's one of those things in music that sound simple but can be complicated.
Like major and minor mode. I think some music that's suppose to be uplifting major scale, sounds depressing to me.

4. Double means two beats per bar. Triple means three per bar.
What's a bar. A grouping of rhythmic pulses, easier to hear than to understand. Waltz is a dance in triple meter. Have you ever heard the accompaniment "om-pa-pa"? That has an accented one followed by
a two and three beat. Military marches are based on two meter, i.e.
left right. ("om-pa,om-pa").

Hope this helps. Glad you enjoyed your music appreciation class.
