Annoying habit: chuckling or giggling no matter what is said!

Do you know anyone who does this?? No matter what you say, how serious it is, how pissed off you are about something, or worried about something, this person's immediate response is a chuckle or giggle??? And then you say, "No, I am SERIOUS!!!!", as if to say, WTF is so funny about (what I said)??????? Is it that these people can't think of a suitable verbal response, or do they not even realize what they are doing??? There are people, good friends, whom I avoid more and more, because their chuckling habit annoys the _______ out of me!!

Anyone else who can not stand this???? (Yes, I know it's trivial, but still.....)

I think it is a nervous response that some people have a hard time controlling. I have a different response when I'm nervous. I get real fidgety and have a hard time making eye contact. It's something I've become conscious of only recently and I'm doing my best to try and stop it.

Honestly it doesn't bother me. But I guess I can see how it would bother others.

What bothers me are the number of folks at work and at school who mindlessly drum their fingers. - Especially the ones drumming to no fathomable beat or pattern. Not the most horrific habit, I know. It's just irritating.

At first I thought she was laughing at me. Now I know it's just her response to everything, and ignore it.

9. I spend 12 hours a day with someone like that!

My co-worker who sits not 2 feet away from me giggles at EVERYTHING.
I have to walk out of the office several times a day to keep from smacking her. How I've lasted this long at this job I don't know

10. My HUSBAND does this, and it makes me froth at the mouth.

Me: STOP that fucking laughing!! The cat's dead!! Didn't you hear what I just said??
Him: I wasn't laughing!
Me: Well, what was that noise, then??
Him: I... well... I don't know.


I honestly think he doesn't listen to a word anyone says(He doesn't do this just to me) and he just emits the most convenient noise to pretend he's listening. It is VERY annoying.

When he is in a real conversation, he laughs or giggles at the end of EVERY one of his statements. also very annoying. Very few utterances require a giggle or laugh at the end.

I don't laugh at quite everything but a lot of things. Sometimes, I laugh at clearly inappropriate things and notice people's response and that makes it even harder to stop laughing. Maybe, it is a nervous thing.

Not out of nervousness. Mostly it's when I think of something funny that I'd rather not say out loud. It's the curse of a smartass.

It's a standard RW response, when the TRUTH is being thrown at them: just laugh it away. Pat Buchanan is the most notable practitioner of this tack. And I suspect it works, among the unformed types.
