Persistant pain!!
Last Saturday, I woke up with a mild pain in my lower stomach and I couldn't keep anything down. But, I did not have a fever. Because I didn't have a fever, appendicitis didn't cross my mind until it was too late. I had emergency surgery for a burst appendix Sunday morning. I can't begin to discribe the pain I have been through. I learned that the symptoms vary from person to person. But, the one that should send you straight for the ER is "persistant pain". If I had known this, I would not be suffering as much as I am now. I would have gone to the hospital much, much sooner. I wouldn't wish what I've been though since Saturday on my worst enemy. If you have persistant pain in your stomach, or even your back, get it checked out.

1. If you have persistent pain anywhere,
you need to be examined by a physician.

2. Glad you are ok
I always thought that the pain was a warning for appendicitis and if it went away that means it burst and then the fever. Good to know that there are different scenarios. No one here has ever had it but the doctor told my son his was 'tender' or some such thing. That was years ago and it just went away. This is serious surgery, take it easy for a while if you can.

4. My doctor said

that there are no set symptoms except the pain. The pain became much more severe after my appendix burst. Of course, any pain means there is something wrong somewhere.

5. It's always good when someone posts a reminder like this;
because we do all forget to pay attention to some of the things we should.

Hang in there; you'll feel better soon enough.

7. I have constant pain in my left side
next to my stomach, just above my bowels.

I've often thought about my appendix, but then I read somewhere that appendix pain appears on the right side.

Since I live alone, I figure I'm dead anyway.

9. Glad to see you made it through this experience...and take those meds!
Appendicitis, like many other ailments, can often have no symptoms, other than pain. Occasionally, the pain is a 'referred' pain; i.e., you may feel pain in your back, on the opposite side of your appendix, and it turns out to be the appendix anyway.

I am very happy to hear you went to the ER...Getting Medical advice is the first step anyone should take when other than the 'usual' aches and pains occur.

A burst appendix is nothing to take lightly...you could have been in much worse shape now, if you had not taken the right steps.

If you were given antibiotics...TAKE THEM ALL!!!!!!!! as directed.
Report anything unusual to your physician or call the ER and talk to an RN.

Welcome to DU....:D

10. I am doing everything the doctor is telling
me to do. Taking my meds, resting, moving around as much as possible (och--och--och!!!) If I had gone to the ER sooner, I wouldn't have suffered as much severe pain and my recouperation might not have taken as long as it is going to.

Thanks for everyone's concern. My main point of this thread is awareness. :grouphug:

12. been there darlin'. so sorry.
make sure to cough a lot, or you might get pnuemonia, like I did.

I had a rupture for 4-7 days before surgery. atypical symptoms and a shitty hospital. I am lucky to be alive, only because my rupture somehow contained itself and didn't blast my abdominal cavity with infection.

sending you strong recovery and quick return to health vibes!
