16. Hey Peggy
It's about 5 years old. I just found a more recent pic of me that I like that I'll scan soon - think same guy with really long hair.
Right now my hair is really short and I've got a goatee and out of control moustache - but I still get carded when I buy cigs. I'm nearly 40 and I still get mistaken for a teenager. Good genes? Bad luck?

I can't freakin' wait til my hair goes grey and I get wrinkles - damn it I earned that!

Khash.

21. You SHOULD get carded when buying cigs! You know how bad
these are for you! *sigh* I wish you could/would stop...it is so very bad for you...and I speak with some authority here; even though I'm retired now, I'm still an RN...

But on the other hand, it's good that you look young...when you get to my age, you won't look it at all...The wrinkles and grey hair will happen when they happen...grey is good, but wrinkles suck...smoking will hasten them as well....OK, OK, I'll stop lecturing...*sigh*

You will show your age, my dear Khash, by your wisdom and good sense...

15. Scanner's broken, so I took pics of my pics...here I am, 80s to today.
At Zoo Blues in Jackson, MS, around 1986 (laugh at the shades or the earrings and I'll kick your ass):

Bartending at the Depot in 1988 (if you didn't have big hair, you missed A LOT of fun :D ):

Lighting candles on my kid's birthday cake, 2003 (notice the conservative coif?):

With a friend's pup in 2003:

Again, DO NOT LAUGH at the big hair. :D

Just kidding. I had seriously big hair. Really big. And crimped. With a lot a thick eye-make up. My mother has some pics where I'm not sure if it's me or a '80s porn star.

Love the pics! The hair was great. And the earrings... I still love big earrings.

Just for shits and giggles, here's another '80s icon:

46. You know what they say:
The bigger the hair the closer to God.
Or, as a friend who is a beautician says:
"The bigger the hips the higher the hair."
She uses that as words to live by.

(I think that the further South you go the more acceptable it is to have big hair. I have naturally big hair-lots of natural body in it. So I figure that I can never move Back East or else I will be teased.)

I kept my nose out of the event of the month and was rather angry to see that they focused more on that w/ the MSM than on events like Iraq or other more "important" events.

As to big hair: my best friend is originally from Dalton,GA. She has admitted to going up to the rail after communion (we are both Methodist) and praying to God for a return of big hair. She really misses it.
I need to look around for a pic of the two of us from back in the day. Nothing but a huge cloud of red hair and two little faces hidden in the mess.

53. God, do you remember dancing and sweating your hair down...
with all of that hairspray running down your neck and into your shirt? That's the one thing I hated about big hair, beside it taking so long to make big. And, of course, ringing your eyes with a ton of black eyeliner--after you danced for an hour and were wringing wet with sweat, you would look like you had two black eyes.

BUT, if I ever look back at my youth and try to determine which were my glory days, I'd have to say that it was the late 80s. We had some wild times back then...and I met Adam Ant! :D

56. I certainly remember the sweat!
It was almost as bad just walking outside in the heat of the summer. The back of your neck would sweat. Then your hair would try to wilt but instead of just falling down the hairspray would coat the back of your neck. And your eyeliner would drip everywhere.
I don't know what was worse-going to a club or stepping off of your front porch in the summertime! In MO we had big hair until about 1996 or 1997. We still have mullets wandering around town.

And meeting Adam Ant would have been incredible!

62. We have mullets here, too.
There's one guy who's holding on to his "fine" days by wearing a mullet and a "come fuck me daddy" moustache.

He's disgusting--not because of his lack of current style, but because he's a wifebeater.

The Adam Ant story--that's another thread. I still have his sweaty t-shirt here somewhere in a ziplock. LOL!

64. My old hometown had one of its most famous mullets on CBS.
On one season of Survivor they had a woman compete from the town that I graduated from high school. Her mullet was known all over town. Of course, after everyone saw it Marshall became a joke all over the internet (it should be a joke but not for the mullet).

I've never met Adam Ant but I have a few people that I have met in person and some interesting stories behind them. I can't post them or I might just lock this thread!

80. I liked guitarists too.
But I seemed to be stuck w/ the singers. They prefer the women w/ the shortest skirts and the biggest hair. I do admit that when I dated singers that were trying to "make it" I often felt used. They seem to like to show you off as some sort of trophy until they find a small-time swimsuit model.
I did see one of my ex's about a year ago. He's still working the beer circuit and he looks like crap. I didn't even say hi. And I noticed that the girl that he dumped me for wasn't with him either.

82. I divorced the guitarist to whom I was married.
He had a violent temper. Really violent. He was narcissistic, too.

Since we've been divorced, he continued living his "dangerous lifestyle," and I went to college. He's been in prison for SEVEN DUIs while I've been finishing my PhD.

I'm much more laid back than I used to be. But, I swear, sometimes I miss the old days. (Not being battered, but being with the band, hanging out during practice, going to the gigs, drinking tons of free beer...you know the routine. :D )

84. The drinking was the best part.
And the looks that some of the girls gave you. It was that "I wish you would drop dead so that I could get your man" kind of look. It actually made me feel good about myself in a odd sort of way that someone envied me for who I was with. It added to my low self-worth. And getting into the venues was great. You could look up as the band played and think to yourself about how you were w/ them and how important that made you feel.
You got to be the first one to hear all of the new material. You got to help them design shirts and (hopefully!) covers. You had a sense of belonging.
There are days that I really miss the old life of going out until who knows when and just partying all the time. Then I look at my daughter and realize that this is the best time of my life, even though I am struggling (single parent) and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

But I wouldn't mind having a night out like the old days just one more time.

92. Ditto everything you said.
My son is the guitarist's son...he's never seen him. He never will, more than likely.

But I am so thankful for my past. Without it, I wouldn't be the person I am now. Most importantly, "Mom" to a very wonderful kiddo.

AND I am glad that I am past the time in my life that my whole self-esteem was immersed in who I was dating. I've grown up so much since those days, but I would love to have one night to hang out with some of the old crowd. So many stories to tell. :D

96. Exactly.
My best friend has similar stories. As a matter of fact,we met because I was dating a singer and she had just met a guitarist. We've stuck together for more years than either of us want to admit. Sometimes we'll get together when her husband (definitely not the type to be in a band) is out of town. We'll get the kids to sleep and just sit around. We'll drink Wild Turkey, JD or Beam, play some poker and talk about the old days. We both miss them sometimes but neither of us will never go back.
My daughter's father deviates from the guys that I used to date. He was a college football player who blew out his knee. I thought that he would give me a more "normal" life than the other guys that I dates. Turns out life w/ an ex-jock who never got his "big break" was even worse than life w/ a musician who you could never really trust.

She wanted a Shrek theme so the entire backyard is going to be full of Shrek crap.
She's really excited about turning 5 and thinks that the whole world should know it.

I'm afraid that she is inviting her summer school class too. I really have no idea who is coming now. I've started making phone calls to double check. I do have 50 goody bags prepared, just in case.

After all, he did get the lowest score on the Purity Test!
