Printer problem
Recently I ran out of black ink. I bought a new cartridge and installed it like I have dozens of times before.

Now my printer will not print black, but the colors are fine. Thinking that the new cartridge might be a dud, I purchased another one. Still no black.

Any tips on what the problem might be?

I have a HP Deskjet 672C.

1. Maybe your computer thinks you are still out of ink?
That happened to my brother once. Are you using Windows XP?

3. He was using XP.
And there is a place that shows how much ink you have left. He just clicked on "install new cartridge" or whatever and the computer then recognized that he had ink. I don't know about Windows 98, though.

4. Isn't there a little sticker you have to pull off to let the ink out?
It's been so long since I've installed one, I'm not sure.

5. Yep, there is a sticker
and I've already pulled that little sucker off.

I am completely dumbfounded.

6. Have you tried checking printer properties?
Edited on Tue Jul-22-03 08:56 PM by JohnyCanuck

If you click "Start," "Settings," "Printers" a window should pop up showing your printer. Right click on the printer icon and select properties. There should be some options within properties that might be relevant to fixing the problem. I have a cannon printer, but my printer properties has a "maintenance" tab with options for running nozzle tests, running a nozzle cleaning session, printing a test pattern etc. It's just a stab in the dark, but it's where I would look for a possible fix if I were in your position.

7. Pooh
I've tried all of the tests three times. It claims there is no communication problem and all of the tests print out, just w/no black ink.

But thanks for trying!

10. As well as restarting windows
have you tried powering off and on the printer? The first rule of computing: If it doesn't work, power it off and power it back on again

11. Do you mean
unpluggling it from the outlet or the computer? I tried the outlet, but will need someone to help me w/the cable to the computer. (I can't reach it.)

12. I just meant shutting off the electrical power
Power it off if you can see an on/off switch or unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
