So, I'm trying to give up caffeine...
...and I've got the worst fucking headache I've ever had in my life.

Does anybody know any non-stress related headache remedies, or should I give in and go get an espresso?

2. Drink water or herbal tea, it will begin to diminish
The headaches only last a day or so, they they linger about three days as a minor inconvenience. Drinking water helps. Sugar hurts. Fat hurts. Exercise helps.

There's also the acupuncture-inspired method of gently pinching and rubbing the flesh between your index finger and thumb on your left hand with your finger and thumb of your right. Usually it works at least a little.

3. I found that it's much easier to quit..
by tapering off rather than going cold turkey... It seems to take just a little caffine to kill the withdrawal headaches, leaving only the tirdness and general sluggishness to deal with, but that's much easier to do without a pounding headache...

5. I would taper off rather than quit cold
I also tend to transition down through hot tea (I give up coffee on a regular basis!).

7. Give up slowly & drink lots of water
If you give up cold turkey, you'll go through withdrawls..headaches, irritability, sleeplessness.

Give it up slowly. If you normally drink a total of 5 caffeine drinks in a day, go down to 4 for a few days, then 3 for a few days, etc etc

Keep yourself hydrated as well--that usually cures me of headaches regardless of the reason.

8. You have two options.
Either give up caffeine slowly - I almost did this by accident, I still need early morning coffee or will grind to a halt but consumea tiny fraction of what I used to. This will take a long time if you don't want ill effects.

The second is a totally belligerent complete exclusion of caffeine. This will take far less time (little more than a week), but will be a git in the meantime.

If I were you I'd go for the latter option - butthat's just me personally.

9. "I drink two pots every day"
I am not a young person and the only way that I can stay awake is to drink coffee all day long.

12. You sound like my type of person.
There is something about the aroma and the flavor of a good cup of coffee or 3 that makes me so happy. Aromatherapy coupled with headache remedies like coffee, soft drinks, and sweets are the only things that'll keep me awake too. I'm a night owl. It's hard for me to function in the day time. Please, have a virtual cup of coffee with me sometime...

17. "I will take you up on it"
My bones are so old that I think the caffeine helps me. I need to cut back to one pot a day and then cut down to two to three cups.

Coffee tonight.....

10. If I can do it you can too. Drink lots of water! I used to have 8 shots
of espresso a day habit.

I'm glad I'm off that stuff.

11. Uhm, I usually just get some more caffeine to stop those headaches.
I have to. I get headaches who have headaches of their own if I don't keep consuming more and more. I drink Dr Pepper to get my caffeine. It works nicely, but when I have been drinking tea all day and start feeling headachy, I'll heat it up or just drink 2 cups of coffee. Damn the addiction. Let it have it's way. I don't care any more. I wants my Dr Pepper. <drooling at the thought of it> Aaaaaaaahhhhhh. ;)

14. Good gods, why?
I drink coffee all day long. Not for the caffeine, mind you...it doesn't affect me the way it does some people, I just LOVE the taste of it! It's the cigarettes I really need, but don't want, to give up.
