Today is the Autumnal Alternox
That day when you first turn on your heater after the summer has cooled. (I'm in the South.)

The Vernal Alternox is of course that day when you first turn on your AC as spring heats up.

I just made all this up, but it makes perfect damn sense to me.

1. What do you call the day when you stop eating ice cream for the winter
because it's making you sick?

3. People stop eating ice cream?
No way. Ice cream is the only sweet I cannot resist, ever. Well, and chocolate, too.

6. I don't.

I ran out of Ben and Jerry's this morning, so I went and bought some more. When I finish this pint, I will buy another. And so will continue my life cycle.

Oh, yeah. I'm in Chicago. It will be February. Bitter cold outside. And I will still eat a pint or two every week.

Actually, just writing about this is making me hungry. Gobfather time!!!

7. There is no life without ice cream
I generally go with the richest vanilla I can find, because I cannot tolerate nuts or cherries or other crunchy crap in my ice cream.

26. I once ate an Eskimo Pie outside while the snow was falling!
It sure was fun to get those big white flakes on my icecream and licking them too! Talk about the looks I got...priceless!

We still got the AC pumping here in Texas. We will until about Thanksgiving.

8. I suppose it's different for everyone
When married couples don't share the same Alternox, then you have serious problems.

10. Thanks for reminding me to turn on my heater.
Energy conservation is great, but I'm freezing. And now, I recall why. It was actually kinda Indian summery today, and now--cold.

18. I've always hated the first chilly day of fall
It's a nasty day, a time when you feel odd and out-of-sorts. It makes me want to hibernate.

21. Loo-seanna? How did you get way down there?
I could have sworn you were in Virginia! My memory must be going. Yuck, it's hot and nasty down there. I have kinfolk just north of Beaumont, Texas. We used to run around in shorts and no tops near Christmastime down there. There's a huge plume of heat that covers parts of east Texas and Louisiana almost year-round. It's always 20 degrees warmer there than the surrounding areas.

May cool weather bless you soon. :)

20. We have not turned our furnace on yet
even though the low got into the 30s last night.

I try to make it to November 1st every year, although it usually ends up being October 15th when I break down and turn on the furnace.

i haven't turned on my heater, but I did turn off the air conditioner today due to a cold front which brought the tem. down 30 deg. to 75 this afternoon. Last few days have been 108 deg or hotter.
