Do you listen to any of these Radio Stations?
Edited on Tue Oct-04-05 06:17 AM by Clintmax
I have always been fascinated with radio stations call letters...that and the jingles they use every day announcing the station letters and frequency. I know...I'm a weirdo. But...I've started collecting the jingles and I thought it would be cool to get your perspective on what the stations are REALLY like in the below list. All I know of them is their jingles. So...do you listen to any of these:

Z100 New York City ("Serving the universe...")
B101.5 (Mid Atlantic's Powerhouse)
KIIS-FM 102.7
KSTP-FM 94.5 (KS-95)
KUSA St. Louis (55 AM) (America's Music)
WZXA 92.9 Nashville (Mix 92.9)
WDRQ 93.1 (Today's Hit Music)
WMGK 103 (Magic 103)
WNCI 97.9 (Columbus)
WSM-FM Nashville (Nashville's Live 95)
WSNI 104.5 Philadelphia (Sunny Music)
WTPI 107.9
WZPL 99.5 (99 and a half ZPL)

1. I can tell you about WMGK...
First of all, it hasn't been Magic 103 for...hmm...at least 15 years. With the advent of digital radio tuners, it became obvious that their frequency was not 103, but 102.9. When they were "Magic 103", they were an easy listening station. These days, they're a classic rock station (and probably one of the few halfway decent stations in Philadelphia). They have some legendary names in Philadelphia radio working for them now, like John DiBella (who I always thought was funnier than Howard Stern), Michael Tearson, and a few others.

It looks like you can listen to them online at www.wmgk.com.

3. Didn't 104.5 used to be WDAS?
Back in the 1970s, WDAS was one of the more radical FM stations in the area, then it went to an all-black format (and a damned good one)...I'm sure there's not place for an independent, family-owned station like WDAS was in a big-city market these days, though.

5. KIIS
When I was growing up in CA (of course) KIIS was one of the radio stations. But the DJ was kind of campy... he was Rick Dees yuck. Haven't listened to that in decades but I still want to hurl!

KROQ - K rock - was the more alternative radio station. Had Dr Drew or whatever his name is at nights - which now he is the psychologist on Big Brother I think that analyzes stuff.

Anyway just a trip down memory lane.
