5. Give'em hell
Walk in there like you own the place. Tell them how it will be. Then keep them too busy to think twice about anything. You'll live right through it. Have fun with it!

13. Do you have one of those "survival guides for substitute teachers"
You might want to pick up one at a local teacher store.
These not only have tips for success, but games (for learning) and activities to keep the little tykes busy -- especially when you find out that the teacher didn't leave much of a lesson plan and you're looking at 25 little faces who have nothing to do.

Yeah, 20 years teaching jr high....... gotta love it. Glad I'm not doing that any more.

Good luck!!!!

6. Good luck. I hope you run in to students like me. I /loved/ substitute
teachers - I always wanted to get new perspectives on things.

16. That's great!
I'm thinking of going to grad school for education. How much experience do most schools require of subs?

17. Here in NC I think you have to be able to
prove you've had at least 30 hours post high school from an accredited college or university.
I've got a BA in History from UNC-Greensboro and hope to go to grad school for History next fall there as well. The pay is different depending on whether or not you have a BA and/or certification. I'm not certified.

I remember there were certain substitute teachers that we loved more than our regular teachers LOL . Just be yourself and don't take crap if they give it to you .

18. Good luck.
Remember to talk to the students in the front row, assuming there are no assigned seats. The ones who choose to sit in the front row will be your allies. Hint, hint: They sit there for protection from the other students and because they want to learn as opposed to the others who are just serving time.
