I intend to get a flu shot. Flame away.
I've never gotten one before. I've had the flu once. Yes, the real deal. None of that sniffling crap, I had the whole sweat 'till the mattress is soggy, what-day-is-it-now, hair on the arms hurts, didn't leave the house for ten days, honest-to-God flu. Didn't much care for it.

Still didn't get a flu shot. Didn't get the flu again.

But this year, EMS (for whom I drive an ambulance from time to time) is paying for it. So, never one to shrug off $25 worth of anything, I will be stuck by this time next week.

So there.

2. I'll be getting one this upcoming week.
It's really not an option. I'm immune impaired. My physicians tend to insist on it.

How dare you take care of yourself!!! What about the cold and flu industry that was depending on you getting sick? Huh? Now you won't go into debt trying to feel better! They won't be making all that money! You should feel ashamed!!!

8. This is controversial?
I would hate to think of you suffering so again, so I hope you get a flu shot.

I am kinda high risk (chronic lung problems) but unfortunately I get serious reactions from the flu shot which are even worse that the flu itself, so I do the next best thing -- become obsessive compulsive about washing my hands and avoiding germ vectors (i.e. kids).

9. Good for you.
I get one most years. Skipped last year because of the short supply; I'm not high risk. One of my co-workers is high risk but can't take the shot. So he (& everyone else who might get the flu from me) would be better off.

Only had the flu twice in my life. But I'd love to reduce my chances of getting it again. I agree, it is NOT that nasty "cold" that goes around every winter.

10. Since I work with "kids," I always get one. Except last year, and what
I did to offset not getting a shot, was to WASH my hands a lot while at work. And, even though I am soooo NOT a germ-phobic (I grew up with 6 siblings -- every bit of food that hit the floor, we ate)... even w/my easy going manner.. I bought a cheap bottle of one of those germ-killing, hand-wiping stuff.

Anyway, I didn't get the flu last year. But I'm taking no chances.
These college kids -- carry germs worse than kindergartners.
They hit the dorms and they are all sick, sick, sick.

Or are those all excuses to miss my class?

Nah, they come to class and sneeze and cough all over us.
Yech.

17. I hate when I'm taking classes...
it seems no one knows how to cover their mouths these days. Or use tissue to blow their noses. I've seen some college students wipe their noses in the grossest ways...

24. You know what weirds me out, is when at the checkout in a store,
you have to cough, so you politely turn away from others and cover your mouth & then have to use that same germy hand to make the money transaction. What to do? Too bad hankies are not de riguer anymore.

26. Oh yeah--that's a tough one...
I'm sure the check out cashiers have seen it all though. Poor things, think about all the gross germs they are exposed to, though.
:puke:

What about using the facilities...you get your hands so nice and clean afterwards, but then have to touch the dirty door knob on your way out again.

 LOL!

29. Here's what our school health officials are telling students/staff/profs
to do:

So, you have to cough and you have no way to avoid people.
Do not cough in your hand. You are right -- that is how all this is spread!

No! Cough down your shirt, onto your chest or other garment.
Let's say you are wearing a t-shirt. Pull out the neckline and cough down into the shirt.
I will work with just about anything, of course not all garments, but you catch my drift?

Just one way to combat the problem. If it looks weird and someone asks, HEY, you get the chance to EDUCATE them on the latest tips for success.

Take it or leave it.... I submit "with a grain of sugar."

35. That is an interesting approach. I wonder if using the crook of your arm
to cover mouth would be effective? Better than using your hand, probably.

38. Probably, but the inside-the-shirt thing contains the germs and keeps
the hands clean. I guess that was the idea.

But when in doubt, go for it.

39. Yep, sounds logical. As you said, some outfits don't work for this so
crook of arm would be better than hand. BTW, thanks for the tip!

20. I'm considering getting one.
Does it really make most people sick when they get the shot? I am more worried about getting sick from the shot than I am from the flu, though I did have a very bad case of the flu last year. It definitely sucked.

They always guess the wrong strains to put in it. Plus, it gives you the flu. They're a joke.

I had the flu back in April and it wasn't too much fun. With the work I missed and the doc. visit, the Tamiflu, it ended up costing me about $700. So, yeah, I'll probably get one this year.

32. Our entire family gets them..
Every year. We all got the flu three years ago (I mean ALL at the same time) and it was MISERABLE. (Family of five here). The only thing worse than having the flu yourself, is having three small children and a spouse down with it-and the only thing worse than THAT is having the flu yourself while you have three small kids and a spouse down with it. It literally took two months before we were all completely recovered from it (and all the nasty secondary infections that folow). We've gotten a shot every year since then. No flames here my friend. Get that shot!

33. I'm too scared to get another one.
The only time I ever got one I got sick as a dog. Sicker than I've ever been with a cold/flu type illness. I know I've been told a million times that it had nothing to do with the shot, but I can't help it; I'm not so sure. The two will always be connected in my mind. I think the flu shot is great, and people who are high risk should get it, but I think the one I got at work was a bad batch or something.

One thing that sucks is that I sneeze when the light or temperature changes suddenly - (it's called a photic response). All year round.

But in the winter, on the train, people glare at me, as if I'm deliberately spreading cold and flu to them.
