Poll question: What sports rivalry is most intense (international)
I felt it was unfair to put two Liverpool rivalries, that is the reason for the double entry on the LFC vs Man U or Everton, as many view them as equaly fierce rivalries.
Honourable mention to Indian and Pakistani cricket, but was edged out by Barca-Madrid.

2. Celtic-Rangers (they're both Glasgow teams).
I'm not even a football fan and I know that.

The rivalry between England and Australia over cricket is definitely intense - but the nature of cricket means that it's also thoroughly civilised in its manner, and certainly would never lead to violence.

The Dutch are otherwise laid back, except when it comes to this:

5. India/Pakistan...
without a doubt. It's about more than just sport; history, politics, religion....when India and Pakistan take to the pitch for a one-day match or a Test series, it's more than just cricket; it's war by proxy. Remember the Olympic rivalry of the USA and USSR? Like that, only at least once a year instead of every four. None of the others on your list really come close.

6. I voted Real-Barca, but it could just as easily be ...
Celtic-Rangers, Lazio-Roma, Boca-River, Milan-Juve, etc.

Here are some other rivalries to think about:

Australia-New Zealand in rugby

England-Scotland in soccer

Brazil-Argentina in soccer

7. agree with all except england-scotland... too one-sided, not the english's
biggest national rivalry anyway, that's germany.
In addition, it's hard for international football rivalries to be as big as club rivalries these days. Otherwise Portugal Spain would be on the list as well.
