Or at least I hope I did.
I was driving to work and I didn't see him until it was too late - just a little dark ball in the road. I slammed on my brakes (which squealed loudly) and managed to maneuver so the car straddled him. Then I turned around and went back to see if he was okay (couldn't have lived with myself if I hadn't).
Poor little thing - I'd seen a car some ways ahead of me when I'd started out that soon disappeared - I think that driver must have initially bumped or frightened the coon. When I got back to him, he was still but raised his head when I got out and talked to him. I was racking my brain trying to think of how I could get him out of the road and had just about decided to throw my emergency blanket over him when he stood up. I'd been standing there (at 4 in the morning) talking to the little guy, telling him, "you need to get out of the road - you'll get killed if you stay there."
Once he was up, he began walking then ran into the woods so hopefully he's not hurt. I'm hoping the other car just did as I did and straddled him and that he was just scared to death. He was just a juvenile and very cute. At any rate, I felt better.
