"The Doors" song "The End"
Are there two versions of this song? I just listened to it on Rhapsody and it was missing the whole Oedipus bit.

1. Yeah,
there was a radio version. Cut to fit.

Somehow, without that "Father, I want to kill you" line, it's not the same happy ditty, right?

Jeez, that's a long time ago...........

3. I don't think there's a "fully" oedipal version.
I mean, really..."Mother, I want to....yeeeeaaaarghhhhhhhh!"

4. I think you would have had to have a tape running
at the night Jim sang the full, unexpurgated ending at their last gig at the Whisky.

5. Transcript?
Seriously, does the "baddest" version really exist?

Eight years in a major record store, and I was never hipped to any such beast.

9. Nah, I was referring to an oft-told Doors tale
Apparently the band didn't get along with the then-owner of the Whisky-A-Go-Go on the Sunset Strip (where they had become the hip LA band of the moment before they released their debut and became superstars). So, at the close of one performance of "The End", Jim decided to deliver on the promise of a full Oedipal and sang "MOTHER......I WANT TO......FUUUUUUUCK YOU!!!!!!!"

The band was shown the door soon after.

I know of no version committed to vinyl/CD/whatever with Jim's explict request to have carnal knowledge of his moms.

I've always assumed " ...he took a face from the ancient gallery" referred to Jungian archtypes. Anyone got the straight dope on that?
