I know this is probably *technically* cheating...
But I wanna know if it's like "you're a sodding loser and you're going straight to hell" kinda cheating, or somehow less horrid than that. :(

So I have this work-at-home opportunity with this company that runs an inbound call-center. Perfect for me, as my youngest is only in half-day kindergarten (who the hell has half-day kindergarten anymore?! x() and I can totally customize my schedule to fit my needs. Also, before anyone asks, yes, it's totally legit. ;)

BUT...the "training" I'm having to do right now is UTTERLY ridiculous.

12 modules. Each module has between 6-8 sub-sections. Each sub-section has 394,938,023,928 categories. It's set up so that you have to have (again, *technically*) completed each module before you can test. You get 2 chances to pass each test. A big part of this stuff is so basic common-sense: "If a customer is frustrated, do you: a) Tell them to stfu, b) Threaten them with bodily injury, c)Blow your airhorn in their ear, curse their mothers, and slam the phone down, or d) none of the above." :eyes: :D

But here's the iffy part. Some of it is very involved and complicated procedurally. It's not that I can't understand it or anything...there's SO freakin' much! And, having taken the first 2 tests already and knowing there's only 25 questions (and several of those are the common sense stuff), it's just really hard to parse what to concentrate on. Soooooo...basically, I've been breezing through the tests, writing down what I missed, and going back and sorting through all the muck to get the answers...re-testing and passing with flying colors.

I make baby Jeebus cry, don't I? :(

4. I don't know, but the answer to the sample question above
is clearly "all of the above". And in the order listed. Why is this not a choice??

9. See, that's kinda how I'm justifying it
If they didn't want people to do this sort of thing they'd make it a different test, right?

I does kinda seem not right, though. :(

15. The point is to get you to know the procedures, so it doesn't matter
how you acquire the knowledge, in my opinion.

I don't consider this cheating at all. You're just learining your way instead of their way.

Example: When I was in school, I'd read the textbooks all the way through at the beginning of the year, and not re-read each section as it was covered in class. I still aced all the tests, because I knew the material. But I was not following the teacher's specific instructions to read a particular section on a given night.

Was that cheating? I don't think so.

17. That's really the truth
I'm a very hands-on kind of person. I could spend the next million years studying a manual for something and still not know how to turn it on, or I could go out and futz with it and take it apart and stuff and have it mastered in an hour.

So, yeah. I'm just learning it my way! :)

Thanks! :hi:

Cheat your way in, be so utterly useless they promote you to the top, give yourself some stock options, go public, sell the company, and move to Tahiti before the FTC are knocking on your front door. Tell Hedges beer grows in trees, and they have Vindaloo bushes there.

It's the American thing to do.

Rev. Jim would be proud of you. It's inbound telemarketing, not like you're a cabdriver responsible for the safety of dozens of passengers every day. Either you upsell them on the Bamboo Steamer or you don't.

Now, how much do I save if I buy the Bamboo Steamer now instead of buyin separately?

Just keep doing what works for you. If you don't need to wade through the bullshit to get where you are going, don't. I don't see anything wrong with it, imo.
