Help! Lots of ant hills in yard!
There are probably 8-10 mounds in our front and side yards. I've Googled it and have read several suggestions to get rid of these critters, including boric acid, cinnamon and grits. Which of these, if any, is most effective, or does anyone else have any other suggestions? Thanks!

3. I read that too!
Don't have any living chickens, though. Maybe throwing frozen chicken breasts on them?

4. One suggestion was to shovel some of the ant hills into another one
Seems they can be territorial and will fight invading ants.

5. Get some chickens, an anteater, move, or just do what I did...
Mow them down repeatedly. Eventually you will become immune to their bites and they'll get tired of you mowing over the hills and move closer to the road. Then you can run over them with the car. Sadly, I have those stinging red ants. I think they are called fireants. I just accept the stings as part of being in the jungle I call a yard.

6. I like the anteater idea
Moving isn't an option. I don't know how the homeowners' association would feel about an anteater (they're VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY strict).

8. In that case, moving should be the only option.
You don't need some homeowner's ass telling you how to live. This is America. Tell them where to shove it and get the anteater or just sneak the anteater out at night and pretend to kiss their ass until you have power enough to overthrow them. I think anteaters are nocturnal anyhow.

7. Are they fire ants?
Amdro works well on fire ants. Just keep it away from pets.

13. Me too....
... if they are fire ants (and at this time of year that would be likely - if you're not sure kick a mound and get away quick - if the ants swarm immediately, they are fire ants) get some Amdro.

I've tried lots of things and this stuff works great.

9. none of those suggestion works
but thanks for the laugh

the only thing that works is amdro & even that only moves them around

i knew a man lost his business when an employee poured gasoline on an anthill and lit a cigarette, boom, i'm confident that after the fire stopped raging, the ant hills were still there

the "fire ant balls" in flood waters is no myth, ask me how i know...

ants are immortal, all you can do is shift them around and make them move a few yards over

but i'm sure they'll appreciate the cinnamon and grits, pour a little honey on top, & they'll call it breakfast

14. ok when i lived in Texas we used to have fire ants, this stuff works
it smells awful, i mean really bad like something decomposing but it does the job, wear gloves and make sure the wind isn't blowing.
