When my parrot was a youngster, he was attacked by a strawberry. He used to live in a dome-shaped cage and I used to offer new items and treats by sticking them on a bar near the top. I applied a strawberry in this manner and Gabby spent the better part of half an hour displaying at it, creeping up on it, looking at it with first one eye then the other. Finally, he approached it from below and just as he was getting ready to touch it with his beak, it slid down the bar straight at him.
Gabby was so terrified he fell backward off the cage, screaming. He hasn't gone near a strawberry since. As far as he's concerned, all berries are suspect.
Today I was eating some frozen blackberries and he kept begging and begging. The one I gave him had some red on it...hmmm, how suspiciously strawberry-like. Once he'd worked up the courage, he grabbed it in his beak and tossed it across the room. :)
That'll teach me to try to foist suspicious berries on him!
