The Crusher is dead
Fans of pro wrestling in the 60's will be saddened by this:

Legendary Wrestler The Crusher (Real Name Reggie Lisowski) Passes Away At 79

Reggie Lisowski a/k/a The Crusher passed away last night in Milwaukee, WI. He was 79. Lisowski was one of the greatest brawlers and most popular personalities in the history pro wrestling. He was a 3-time AWA World Heavyweight Champion who had notable feuds with Ray Stevens, Blackjack Lanza, Larry Henning, Nick Bockwinkel, Fritz Von Erich, Verne Gagne, Bobby Heenan and Jesse " The Body" Ventura. We hope to have more on his passing tomorrow. His family says doctors found a brain tumor in Lisowski this past May. Our condolences to his family and friends.

1. The Ramones wrote a song called the Crusher about a ficticious wrestler.
I loved it. I never really knew that the Crusher was ever a real wrestler.

2. I've seen this on the wrestling
boards I visitall day :(

Actually watched a few of his matches (via downloads and tapes of course). . .

At least he lived to be 79 . . to many wrestlers lately have died at an early age.

4. I've seen him wrestle live many times
back in the old days. My big brother used to take me to the friday matches at the Colliseum in Fort Wayne Indiana. Those matches were the best times of my life.

I've seen many of the old greats, including Dick The Bruiser, Blackjack Lanza, Baron Von Rashke (featuring his signature "Claw Hold"), Wilbur Snyder, and on and on.

My condolences to the entire wrestling universe. A Great One is now at rest.

5. Agreed
Being only 23 and only started watching wrestling in 91 . . never got to see the Crusher live or in his prime . . .but I enjoyed his stuff from tapes and downloads. . . truly a legend in the wrestling business.

On another note Baron Von Rashke is one of my Uncle's favorite wrestlers from back when he stilled watch. I just remember as the kid running from my Uncle as he chased me with that damn claw :).

8. Oh, crap. My brother did that claw thing to me.
I'd completely forgotten about that!

He was twice my size, and ten times as strong (he was seven years older). He could get me by the gut with that claw hold and lift me clean off the floor! (No surprise he went on to be a prison guard later on in life...)

I haven't thought of that for thirty years and more. Great memories of childhood.

6. He often tag-teamed with The Bruiser,
who was allegedly his cousin. Man, all these names in this thread sure do bring back memories. Old school wrestling was way cooler than this crap nowadays.
