6. Lots of musos here
In fact, there's a whole Musicians Forum that's just packed with them.

Myself: mainly guitar and voice, but I also play keys, sax, bass, viola, harmonica and do drum sequencing and synth programming. I've played semi-pro for the last 20 years or so in a variety of bands in a variety of styles (everything from country to jazz to classical to flamenco).

7. I can play eight instruments, but I'm hardly a "musician"
I'm not very good at any of them.

And many of them are similar instruments, with only slight differences.

Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo, Bass Guitar, Uke, Harmonica, Piano, Clarinet, etc...

And then I guess there are always things everyone can play but not many people interact with, like recorders and xylophones.

Like I said, though, I wouldn't consider myself to be "good" on any of those instruments. I get by.

And I can't drum at all.

I still can't read music but I keep practicing, I play by ear mostly. I wouldn't consider myself good at all, but i do enjoy it.

But somehow between readding notes and beat counting mixed in with the actual playing looses something in the mix. I know how to "do" everything one at a time but mixing them is trying. It could be because of my hand tremors.

66. Yup, Bassoon.
Payed for my college too. Well, part of it anyway.

I was at least able to buy my own instrument, a Kohlert from around the 1920s. The bell says "made in Bohemia". It doesnt have a hi C or D key, as they werent invented yet.
I was able to refinish it, and had the keys re-done a couple years ago. Beautiful instrument, with an upper register that just sings.

69. Sounds wonderful!
I wish that music stores would rent them. I'd have done that years ago. I finally broke down and sold all my reed-making tools and blanks to a beginning college student. Really hard to do!

Maybe someday if I have a few dollars, I'll try and find one.

Of course I always wanted a Puchner or a Heckel (forgive the spelling, it really HAS been years since I've played)

71. Many music stores do rent them
just not the really nice ones. You would have to settle for a beginner model.

Heckels are amazing, yes, and still the standard for a great instrument.
But have you checked out Fox lately? They are an American company, and their new 601 is on par with the best stuff from Germany.

Liked it alot. College instruments are barely used... Hated playing contra. Had to borrow the one the city's symphony had. Like carting around your own coffin!

I'll call around and see what's available to rent.

Thanks!

gave it up to marry a musician and one of us had to earn a living. The musician's gone now and I miss music terribly. I played double reeds.

I tried guitar but it's too abstract for me. An "A" can be here, here, or here...

32. I've been known to play guitar, but not very well
It's a shame too, because it's a really nice-sounding guitar when I can get my fingers to do what I tell 'em to do. I'm also making a lap steel with my dad as time (and money) permits. So far the body is cut out and that's about it.

I may not be good, but enthusiasm has to count for something, doesn't it? ;)

That's a good start, but you need stage time in order to get the kind of experience it takes to handle a gig.
