Poll question: What Do You Think Of Online Universities?
You know, like the University of Phoenix Online?

I've seen commercials for them and I don't know what to make of them. It sounds simple enough, but I don't know if an employer would be too thrilled about hiring someone who got their degree over the Internet.

Plus you have to figure that since you're not physically IN a classroom, you can have anyone take your tests for you or hire someone to do absolutely ALL of your work.

So, has anyone seen these commercials?

I know some people have, the commercial I just saw said it was the largest private accredited university in the country.

1. Actually, your exams have to be proctored.

Basically, you have to go to a testing center or local college campus to have your exams proctored, so you can't hire someone to take your exams for you. Hell, a student in a traditional university can hire someone to do the rest of the school work.

As long as an institution is accredited, employers will have no problem accepting the coursework.

Edit - I'm considering an online program offered by the University of Maryland.

2. It's called
'distance education'....and has been available since 1850 from the University of London England.

Education for the sons of Empire in far flung places and all.

Recently it's moved and updated to the net...obviously.

I can't explain what American universities do...half of them appear to be accredited, and the other half not....but distance education is big business...and booming...in the rest of the world.

Quite acceptable.

5. Some people, especially those with families and full-time jobs...
...appreciate not having to attend classes which often conflict with their lives.
