NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Country-music sales are off 10 percent from last year.

But with releases by Kenny Chesney and Big & Rich still to come and the Country Music Association broadcasting its annual awards show this month, no one is panicking.

"We still have a chance to make it up and get up to last year's final tally," said Bill Kennedy, vice president of sales for Capitol Records Nashville.

Through the week ending Oct. 2, country music sold about 45.2 million units, compared with 50.2 million units for the same period last year - a 10-percent drop, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

But country isn't the only genre struggling in 2005. Across all genres, music sales fell from about 445.5 million units to 414.6 million units - a 7-percent decline.

3. That's cause it all sucks
I don't listen to anyone but Tim McGraw & Faith Hill since the Chicks blacklisting, but a friend does. And it's all either Top 40 Pop stuff (Keith Urban -- although he's very good), or smaltzy crap. Ewww.....

5. Here's a little song for you
Marty Robbins heard the master's call with Spade Cooley behind the wall
I could listen to swing and boogie all damn week
But cowboy songs take the backseat, when they play that achey breaky geek
Makes me proud as hell that I'm a freak

Cause this Western glamor's full o' philistines
Churning out false prophets, slaves to the machine
But I'm headin' for the lowlands you won't miss me when I'm gone
Cause I'm startin' to hate country, but still love cowboy songs!

-A.S.S.

(hope I got the words right, it's too obscure to google.)

6. Just goes to show you...
When something turns into crap, people become unwilling to invest their time and money into it.

The days of Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr. are over.
