2. I wouldn't worry about passing them
I've known some "MCSE"s that didn't know a hard drive from their asshole.

4. It's about paper, not real world capability.
That's why those twonks can get jobs. Which is sad, really. It shows they can pass a test. And not know how the product works.

3. With web-based everything, MCSEs are now a waste of money:
:(

http://techrepublic.com.com/5254-6257-0.html?forumID=99&threadID=183991&messageID=1877889&id=4221043

Excerpt: Now, the question is, do I keep my MCSE cert or let it drop? I think the answer is "let it go." Getting certified in Windows, or anything else right now, seems nuts. Traditional software products are going by the wayside. People won't pay for a license, they'll pay a recurring subscription fee. But that's a topic for another day.

It's an interesting debate, which is why I'm saying "Fuck youse, IT" and moving to something more creative - you can't offshore originality.

5. yes very true - and MS has screwed themselves out of the cert biz
A lot in the IT industry considered NT4 cert a joke. I took it and passed - and the cert held cred back then.

So MS makes the 2k test much harder. Less people are certified, but the cert is in high demand. So MS gets this great idea "What if we make 2k3 EVEN HARDER??"

So they do, no one passes, everyone gives up and so far I haven't seen a job req that doesn't say "or equivalent experience" next to any MCSE listing.

Basically, MS painted themselves out of the biz.

Citrix, Cisco and VCP are in much higher demand than MS anyway...

6. DH took these tests
He's worked in the software industry for 20 years as a network admin, senior tech support, and now senior software engineer. The tests weren't fun. He had a MCSE but let it lapse. BTW, there was a woman down the street from us getting her MCSE at the same time; she had never even SEEN a computer network, and asked DH if she might visit his employer during business hours in order to see one. :eyes:

Certification -- whatever. One must know how to use the hardware/software before certification is given, but that is my soapbox.
