Misunderstood song lyrics
Okay what song lyrics have you heard that were grossly misinterpeted. Name the song and band.

Bob Dylan - the answer is blowing in the wind - I thought he said the ants are my friends and thier blowing in the wind.

Crystal Gale - do it make my brown eyes blue - I thought it said Donughts make my brown eyes blue

Huey Lewis and the News- I want a new drug - I thought it said I want a new truck.

So what are some of the lyrics that youve misunderstood?

1. Gordon Lightfoot's Sundown
Sundown you better care
If I find you've been creeping round my back stairs

somehow I heard:
Sundown, you better take care
If I find you've been drinking my Labatt's ale.

I, of course, never get lyrics wrong :eyes: - but I remember my sister, at about 5-6 years old, singing the Beatles as
She's got a chicken to ride.

11. Various Alanis SFIJ
From Sympathetic Character:
"I was afraid you would hit me with your baton...
"I was afraid of your complete disregard for beat...
"I was afraid of your tempo...
"I was afraid of Handel being blown off on...
"I was afraid of your tintinabulation...
"I was afraid of your musician...
"I was afraid of your volume... (sic)
"I have as much range as you have...
"I was afraid for my trombones...
"You were my very own Symphony Conductor...

Um, OK, I'm being ignorant... I had some other song snippets from that album, but I think I've already overdone it. Eventually I might make this crap into a parody version.

14. Sam Cooke/Rod Stewart "Twisting The Night Away"
I heard; "He's dancin' with the chicken slacks..."
He's saying; "He's dancin' with the chick in slacks..."

I just assumed there were designer pants out there called "chicken slacks"!
You know, like capri pants, tube tops, or Beatle boots???

(Dang... I'm old!)

16. Here's one that EVERYONE has wrong...
including the sheet music people and everyone who ever covered the song!
In Hank Williams "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", the official lyrics of the third
stanza, wrongly so mind you, are:

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die
That means he’s lost the will to live
I’m so lonesome I could cry

But what Hank is really saying is:

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves begin to die
LIKE ME he’s lost the will to live
I’m so lonesome I could cry

It's clear as a bell in Hank's original version and really kinda sad
considering he had drunk himself to death by age 28.

17. "Down on corner" by CCR, John Fogerty sings "gut bass" and
in my hometown, Cut Bank, Montana, lots of people think he says "Cut Bank." The rumor is that he was singing the song about street dances that used to be held there decades ago. I used to get into arguments with people about how he was not saying "Cut Bank." It doesn't even make sense in the context of the sentence either. It's ridiculous, but Fogerty can be so hard to understand that it's tough to convince people what he's actually singing.

18. The famous one is "'scuse me while I kiss this guy"
(The Rolling Stones - "'scuse me while I kiss the sky"

There's a whole site devoted to misheard lyrics:

http://www.kissthisguy.com/

I always hear the first two lines of the Garbage song "Milk" as:

"I am Milk / I am rancid kitchen"

I know that's not right, but I don't know the right version.

It's "do you do more than dance" as I pointed out to the Loved One, who thought it was the above.
