Rented "Bewitched" recently. Don't.
Fan of the show, but the movie was one of the worst. The reviews were bad, but I didn't think it could be That bad. It was. Nicole Kidman phoned in a ditzy performance (not Samantha, fer sure), Will Ferrell didn't have a clue. To be fair, they had nothing to work with. Maybe a good movie was left on the cutting room floor. Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine were wasted. Worth renting for the bonus feature: The first three TV episodes really decently colorized. Skip the movie.

2. The only good performance I ever saw Will Ferrell do was "Old School"...
And "Anchorman". That's it.

3. It's just money, why should they care?
I've seen framegrabs of colorized season 1. Looks very good, but you can still tell it's not native color. Too much contrast in some scenes.

... I had already heard bad reviews about the movie, but still, I just HAD to have it anyway.

9. I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, Arwalden
But it's best to know the truth ahead of time, so you won't get your hopes up. Post your own review after you have seen it, though!

6. Nicole Kidman can't do comedy
She's a very good dramatic actress, IMO, but she can't do comedy, can't pick good comedies to do, or both.

8. I think she was playing herself in 'To Die For'.
That was a good, black comedy.

7. Critics were enchanted with Bewitched!
Don't believe me? Here's some of what they wrote...

"Unrivaled in modern times for smugness, vapidity, and condescension. To spend even 10 minutes in the movie's universe is to experience the Sartrean nausea of an utterly hollow head and heart." -- Michael Atkinson, VILLAGE VOICE

"This hackneyed, hapless and utterly useless redo of an overrated 1960s sitcom is excruciating to sit through for a dozen reasons." -- Robert Wilsonsky, DALLAS OBSERVER

"It sinks so deep and fast, you don't even see bubbles on the surface. " -- Desson Thomson, WASHINGTON POST

"A terrible, terrible movie. Its creators have a swell idea at the core, a wonderful leading lady, and several stalwart comic players in support, and they make of all of that a picture with the wit of an armpit fart, the verve of a boxwood shrub, and the appeal of a long night in an ER waiting room." -- Shawn Levy, PORTLAND OREGONIAN

"Any picture that makes you yearn for the dramatic work of Dick Sargent has got problems." -- Bruce Newman, SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS

"A disaster so low in energy that it jumpstarts its own engine every 10 minutes." -- Rex Reed, NEW YORK OBSERVER

"The result of people trying so hard to wring magic out of a dry well, all that's left to see is their flop sweat." -- Rene Rodriguez, MIAMI HERALD

"You're likely to want to pluck out your eyeballs." -- Walter Chaw, FILM FREAK CENTRAL

10. Thank you in advance
I was always curious about the movie, but hesitated plunking the bucks to see it. Thank you for sparing me from a boring night.

11. I thought the plot was convoluted.
I just couldn't figure out why they just couldn't have done a straightforward remake of the series...with Samantha, Darrin, etc...instead of this business with a witch playing Samantha and an actor playing Darrin on a remake of the series. Plus...was Shirley MacLaine supposed to be Isabel's real mother?? The whole thing was confusing. There were some characters from the series...I was glad to see Aunt Clara...but the movie was disappointing.

12. I got to watch it on a non-stop flight from Philly to San Diego
It was horrible. Nicole Kidman has some talent acting but definately didn't show it in that stinker. She has to knock it off with the breathy 'Marilyn Monroe' tittering speech. Marilyn Monroe she is NOT!

15. I agree, it was atrocious.
I was surprised -- there have been many 'stinkers' that I actually kinda enjoyed (just saw "Sweet Home Alabama" - not the best, but certainly not as painful as Bewitched) so I thought I'd take a chance. My husband and I were alternately bored and disgusted and couldn't believe it was only 90-some minutes long - it seemed like forever!

16. Nearly grabbed it at the video shop today.
Common sense gabbed me by the scruff of the neck and dragged me to another section. Picked up a French film instead, "Novo". About a chap with short term memory loss. Comme si, comme ça.
