Is there a polite way to move my old dog to the other end of the couch?
He is sleeping so peacefully, but he's on the end where the lamp is and I need to sit there and plug my laptop in...

1. Can you lift up the cushion, dog and all, and set it on the floor?
(hey, maybe you won't be so comfortable, but that's the price we pay for our pets right?)

2. He's 70 lbs
so no, not really!

I think I will entice him to the other end of the couch with a treat.

4. Get a knee between the arm and the cushion
and nudge him.
I've found you can nudge dogs (and cats) all over the place without waking them.
It even works with goats, potbellied pigs, and calves.
Just do small nudges.

Yer welcome.
;-)

6. Now he's on his back with his legs up in the air.
So a little tickling may make him change positions.

7. food worked!
I made his dinner and he woke up to the smell. I warned him that he would lose his spot on the couch and he was ok with it. :)

9. Give up.
It'll be easier to move the outlet. From right to left, 60 lbs, 120 lbs, 100 lbs. We've moved several outlets.

10. The solution is simple

Move the lamp. This may involve an extension cord.
You are welcome:)

11. Isn't it funny how we'll find another place to sit...
If our pet is on the chair we want to sit on? I only draw the line when there's a cat in my computer chair and I want to go online. I've noticed that I'll keep the noise down around a sleeping cat, too. I lower the radio or TV so I don't wake them up.

12. I draw the line at a kitty
on the keyboard ... the chair I can handle.

Iused to have an old dog - well, he wasn't always an olddog. After all, he did come to us as a puppy - but when he was older and he would be laying on the floor in my path I would always step over him or go around, but he would get up anyway ... it made me feel so bad that he had moved. Fred was a good ole dog ... I think I am going to cry now.

14. When he was a puppy
my mother used to carry him around in her coat pocket. One night he got left outside and our old half blind Siamese must have thought he was a rat. We heard him yelping and Mom ran outside an brought him in. He had a large gash under his hind leg. Dad, who was a doctor and always had sutures and stuff around, sewed him up there on the kitchen counter.

One time my father was arguing with the neighbor about poitics. The neighbors were Wallace supporters. Fred took up for Dad and went after the neighbors dog which was about twice his size. Dad sewed Fred up that time too.

15. I face daily challenges from my dog and cat.
They are stubborn. Enticement works. A treat can move a mountain in pet world. Short of voluntary movement, you can make a nice comfy spot with a blanket on the other end of the sofa and gently pick him up and move him. This is met with much indignation at my house, particularly coming from my cat, but if you make a comfy alternate spot, they get over it pretty quick.

Either that or move the lamp.

Good luck.

16. With my cats, I usually act like I am going to sit right on
top of them. Two of them will move just because they think I am crazy. Domino, however, will sit right there. Knowing her personality, I will sit beside her and pet her and ask if I can lay down next to her. She's the grumpy type and will move to avoid having to deal with me. She likes to love me only when she wants to. The rest of the time, she doesn't want to be bothered. Dogs tend to sack out and just stay. My suggestion: If there is enough room cuddle up and let the dog stay there, do that instead.

17. I always used to go open the refrigerator. They'd come to investigate,
I'd give them a small treat and run back to the couch.
