8. What sucks is that
I'm between jobs, and I have 1400 a month in bills/rent. I normally bring in 1200 every other week. Come the 22nd, I'll still only get paid 900. I do realize that many others have it far worse than I do, its just something I'm not used to dealing with. I'm pretty lucky compared to alot of folks. :)

13. There is always the time-honored tradition
of getting a PayPal account and asking for money on an internet forum. Sometimes they come through.

But only if you are desperate, and only if you have a good story. Many small donations add up over time.

Edited on Thu Dec-08-05 10:23 PM by nashbridges
See, no story, no nothing. That will get you nothing.

Dying father, help meeting rent for a family of sixteen - these get money.

Being a trustworthy member of a forum also buys you points, but only so many. The trick is to ask for donations that are small enough a person doesn't mind giving them up to the great unknown.

I think you would be surprised at how many success stories are out there. Valid, needy people asking for help and receiving it. If someone was really hurting on the DU, and I could verify it, I'd help them out.

Verification is key...

26. dude, it was just a joke, try to keep it inside the box for a change...
i work 3+ jobs to be where i am (read the post you replied to)...you never even asked what the pay-pal account was for. people are already paying me and that is plenty good enough poopy pants. but i sometimes still cringe when hubby empties his pocket to a homeless person if only because i very often see my laundry money walking away.

"verification is key"

truth by random proclamation, is it then? that just happens to be the essence of a pay-pal account. but if, for that matter, you were to become privy to my little tale of piteous woe...i would expect nothing more from you than to buy the next round and that seems only fair under this circumstance as well.

still, it is your aspersion that i am not "a trustworthy member of a forum", now that's gonna cost'ya.

After paying the bills, I usually have about 200 bucks until the next pay day. It's always *gone* mind you...but umm...people have more than that left over in their checks?!

40. I am not rich
but I could not live that way.
I have gone for years with zero or negative income, but the poorest I ever was, wealth-wise was $100 in the bank and 100 shares (about $2500) in stock. Plus I had my land and mobil home which I paid $4500 for, and about $500 worth of tools.

Doubtless it helped that I was born to a middle middle-class family. But I also find it odd when people complain about being broke, and yet they can still afford the internet. I would dump the non-essentials until I got ahead, but I am not sure at this point if I consider the internet a non-essential in my life. OTOH, I went without running water for a year about a year ago, just because I was torqued at the water company.

43. I can rationalize my internet costs, LOL.
I have Vonage, so my phone goes over the cable modem--I figure I'm not wasting any more money than if I were paying Ma Bell.

When you say you couldn't live that way, I'm assuming you mean with $200 till next payday? Having no money in the bank? :dunce: Not sure. If so....why not? What do you buy day to day that takes up the money? Have a life, LOL?

I just got some McDonald's, and am thinking about taking the kid to the movies this weekend, so I guess I'm not *too* broke. Which is weird, because I'm seeing a bankruptcy lawyer next week. I felt guilty getting the Mickey D's. Sigh.

27. We've been "cardless" since October, and other than a twinge
now and then, I don't miss them a bit....Of course I did a stupid thing a few weeks ago, I paid the mortgage a month ahead (part of our plan..to get 6 months ahead), and then my husband took out $400 from the ATM.. Luckily I looked at the account online, and transferred money to cover ..But for a few days there we were "on the edge"..The plus side is that we are now 2 months ahead, and in a few weeks, it will be 3..

I am waiting for one of our old cars to take a crap, and need an expensive repair.. That's when I'll be missing the credit cards..:)

42. I've just been screwed by our fabulous health care system
When the Rethugs took control, I lost all my benefits including health insurance, and the cheapest I can find is $600 a month, so I have none. I recently had some un-ignorable health issues and went to the Emergency Department in the middle of the day. They took my vital signs and gave me a referral list of doctors. And charged me $500. Apparently if you have insurance the chart is $300. But if you can't afford insurance it's $500. Go figure. So I saw the GP who referred me to a specialist who insisted on MRIs and x-rays. I'm now in debt about $5000. Unfreakingbelievable. And I haven't been treated. Welcome to George Bush's America.

54. $600/mo for health insurance. That's fair. Not.
I hate the health industry--I was in a car accident and the doctor wrote me a script (?) to get an x-ray to see if I had a concussion. I went to the hospital near to my house and was told my insurance was no longer accepted there. I could either not get the x-ray, or I could go to another hospital.

I had just been in a car accident--so I stayed.

Cost me $400 bucks I still haven't paid.

But national health care would be SO SCARY, I'm glad the Republicans saved us from ourselves!
