SNOW STORM CHECK IN....
Here in northeast PA (just northwest of Wilkes-Barre) we have about 4-5 inches on the ground as of 6am and still coming down heavy. Fortunately the snow is light and fluffy - easy to shovel

expecting 8-10 in total by the time it's over.

knuckle-dragger next door is already snow-blowing his driveway - don't know why - he's laid off for the winter and mrs. knuckle-dragger doesn't work. just what we need at this time in the morning a loud, sputtering snowblower waking everyone up... :eyes:

oh well....won't be going to work this morning -- what about you?

Schools closed everywhere today! I am going out soon to help shop for Operation Santa. The roads look bad but not impossible and I don't have far to go. Then I am coming home to put the lights on my tree (ugh).

17. I don't have to go out but I like driving around and taking pictures.
One of my house mates just drove out to work then turned around and came back home after only going a short way.
He said "The streets are empty".

42. just finished shoveling the driveway
and the walkway, and a path to the woodpile and one up to the dog run...

neighbor down the road plowed most of our driveway for us... gave him $15 and a hug...

knuckledragger next door had his snowblower out, blew most of the snow from his driveway onto the mailboxes. I cleaned out around ours and two other neighbors boxes, but left his blocked in (it's the end one) -- when the mail truck comes, the knuckledragger will either find all the snow knocked into his driveway or the mailperson won't deliver to that particular mailbox

45. I hired someone to plow when the snowfall is over 3".
He'll be along sometime today. Our driveway is long.
At onetime, I cleared it using a snowblower that moves on treads. We still still use that 10 year old machine.

One of my house mates cleared the path to both enclosures that we have for the 4 outside dogs.

I've been stacking wood but the stove hasn't been installed yet so I'm cozy staying in watching the birds at my feeders.

Why don't you just relax by the fire ...
Have a nice hot cup of tea.

66. I usually say Woodstock too,
I can be sure that no one will know of Shokan!

We miss it, but at the same time we don't, if you know what I mean. We went back home to visit (all of our family is in Dutchess County) and there is a hotel that popped up right there between Lowe's and Target! :wtf: It is like Kingston just exploded in the last year.

Our friends are trying to sell their house in Stone Ridge to move up here. Which I would love because I know no one here and find it hard to get out of the house with my three young ones. It got too expensive for us to live there (in NY). My husband and I were both born right in Dutchess County, but I have lived in other states due to my parents divorce. My husband has never lived anywhere but NY, but is happy now that we have moved here. I do really miss Woodstock though and New Paltz especially. We got married there and my husband is a climber. We both went to college there also.

Sorry, got a little homesick for a minute. Nice to know I have an old neighbor on DU :)

16. Sometimes the schools are super wimpy.
Apparently one school system decided not to close about 15 years ago and the kids were stranded there for several days, so sometimes they get paranoid or something.

Heck, with 7" I wouldn't want to drive to work, so I would welcome the snow day.

Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 08:48 AM by mcscajun
The ramp up to the parking lot wasn't plowed, so I parked nearby (but not in sight of the office -- couldn't) and rang the office periodically to see if anyone else got in, or the lot had been plowed. This was at 7:15 AM. At 8:56, I rang the boss at home -- he hadn't been able to get out at all. He was going to call someone who lives near the office to see if they could walk in and cancel all our appointments for today, and sent me home. It's still falling pretty heavily here in NW NJ, and the roads are a dicey proposition.

So....the good news is...I'm home now, and able to check in here. The bad news, I won't get paid for today...Hourly worker, doncha know. :( If there was any justice in the world, I'd get paid for the effort.

I had quite a time getting in and even worse getting back. Hell! I'm not going to go back out to start shoveling until this thing is all over. FEH!

Time for Hot Oatmeal. Yum!

64. We had a thunderstorm this afternoon
right in the middle of a raging, "white out condition, snowstorm!
....now we're shoveling about 7" of snow- and the stars and
moon are lighting our way.....Ahhhh, New England weather.
