Oh God. I think the coyotes have my cat.
I let her out only about 15 minutes ago to pee. I could hear them (coyotes) yipping nearby but they don't usually come very close to the house and house cats aren't usually their "thing". When I called my cat "Mouse" back in, I saw 2 canine looking animals in the flashlight and that was it.

"Mouse" is almost 14 years old. If something like this has happened to her I think it is because there has been a huge shift in the ecosystem of this area.

Please pray for my Lydia aka as "Mouse"

2. I really, really doubt it
cats, even old cats, are agile and quick. Let us know, okay?

Also, I think cats taste nasty to predators.

4. OMG, hope she's okay.
I use a litterbox for my cats and don't let them outside. I have way too many horror stories from my childhood when I had to leave my pet cats outside and couldn't have them indoors. And yes, wild dogs in addition to so called pet dogs allowed to roam a neighborhood will gang up on a cat and kill it in a heartbeat. I hope your cat is safe.

7. I'm beginning to think that might be a good idea.
Thank God Mouse is by my side as I type, but it was quite a scare.
I don't know... I'll really have to think about it;

On one had if kept her in the home, she'd be safe. But what about the outside world she'd miss?

On the other, there are many dangers, but what about all the things that she could explore?

Oh... the dilemmas of cat-lovers. I suppose not many would understand. :-)

10. Get her a window perch or make one by
putting a chair or something she can use to climb on top near the window. Problem solved. Get scoopable litter, so you don't have to lift the heavy box and she'll most likely take to it right away. Even kittens brought in from the outdoors and adopted know what a litter box is. I have always wondered how it is that they know what it is.

11. Thank goodness!
I was worried for you. I lost my baby cat to coyotes in my back yard in 2001 and never really got over it. It was horrible. Reading your message made me feel sick for you in my heart.

I am so, so happy for you that your cat came inside and was fine!

9. Maine Mary.
After you find Mouse, you have to kill those coyotes. Get a spotlight with a red lens, a predator call and a shotgun/rifle. Lure them in and kill them. Thats what I do when coyotes decide they can hunt on my property.

14. Sounds good but
It's better sport if you do it the old fashioned way .... by dusk... no lamps, spotlights- nothing. We don't trap either.

20. Righteous peremptory strikes... brilliant strategy!

Coyotes hate our freedom. Kill 'em all!

Liberate the coyotes!

Spread that freedom, brotha!

Eagles up!

Yeeee haaaw!

21. Once they get interested in your animals they will return.
They will return until there is no longer a food source. I don't know if Mary would want to wait until after they kill Mouse before she exterminates the coyotes.
My guess is you write this witty commentary of yours while sitting in your house in the burbs or downtown in your loft with no real concept of how coyotes behave. I will give you a hint- wiley coyote was a cartoon character.
I have never had problems with coyotes because they are killed on site. My state has an open season on coyotes year round and no license is required.

19. ?

"Thats what I do when coyotes decide they can hunt on my property."

Perhaps you should post "no hunting" signs on your property at coyote eye level. Because I'm not sure they just inherently comprehend the concept of "private property," being coyotes and all.

22. No signs needed after you shoot them.
I am well within my rights to shoot coyotes on my property. There is an open season here in Tennessee on the critters and no license is required.
Coyotes often take domestic livestock. If you want me to I can start using a have-a heart trap and ship them up to your neighborhood?

17. I had the exact thing happen a month ago.
A frenzy of coyotes right in the yard. I was so worried. Fortunately, my cat came back the next morning.

I'm praying for your little kits. I know just how you feel.

/refrains from cursing dogs, as much as I want to.
