Just a heads up - Neil Young and Jack Black on SNL
I know many people refuse to watch SNL any longer (I still think it has it's moments), but I wanted to make sure that if you are a Neil Young fan you know that he is musical guest tonight. Jack Black can be funny here and there and I know there are a lot of his fans here at DU.

1. I hope some East Coasters
brief the rest of us on the goings on, particularly Neil's performances.

Thanks in advance.

2. i'll tivo
and skip to neil

snl is irrelevant and has no political edge-often leans to the right these days, actually.

3. I never remember it being really political
They have always thrown some politics in, but it wasn't meant to be a political show. It is just a comedy show with musical guests. Even going back to the days with Radner, Belushi, Aykroyd and the rest they only did politics here and there. They did a lot of of Landsharks, Coneheads, Samurais, Wild and Crazy Guys and once in a while Aykroyd did Jimmy Carter.

4. there's been tons of great political stuff on snl
franken wrote lots of sketches during his two stints on the show-his best work during the '88 primaries. dana carvey was a factor in poppy's defeat, i believe. there have been plenty og reat snl impressions of politicial figures - bush I and II, pat robertson, clinton, perot, george will, john mclaughlin, nixon, kissinger, ford, strom thurmond, etc

the late great mike o'donahue trashed reagan in the classic bizarro earth sketch.

a few weeks ago I saw SNL actually backing the line that christmas is being 'secularized' and I knew it was time to pull the plug on the show

5. Ah, someone else who refers to O'Donoghue as "the late great"...
because he was. Rest In Peace.
Did You know that there is a longtime DU-er who had a longtime relationship with O'Donoghue? Any time that I get a laugh from her I feel as if I have received an ovation from the toughest room in the world.
