Pig Ears

Since dogs will do just about anything to get their paws on the fresh, meaty flavor of pig ears, they're a great choice for those times when you want to offer your pooch an extra special treat or when his behavior has been so tail-wagging good, he deserves only the best reward.
Adult dogs of all sizes can enjoy pig ears, just remember to keep an eye on your dog while he's chewing and remove any small fragments that may break off.

Sounds good.

1. You know, one thing I am ashamed to admit, is that dog food smells good.
I've never tasted it (I gag at the thought), but maybe those crack heads are on to something.

2. At first, my dog refused to have anything to do with them.
Then, he discovered he really WAS a dog, and likes them quite a bit.

7. I buy my guys a 1 1/3 pound bag of them twice a month.
They love the things. A large ear will keep a dog busy for a long time. These dogs have eaten rabbits, racoons, possums and even tried to eat a slunk. To them its healthy eating.

9. Eew. They made my dog's breath stink and stained his white paws.

And my white carpet. I worry about all those chemicals the pig's ears have, too - preservatives and whatnot.

He's just as happy with a few carrots or a small apple.

No more pig ears in this house.

10. Oh you haven't lived until
your dog gets one and slimes it up REAL good then it gets stuck under the couch and for three weeks you wonder what the heck died.

11. My Rottie used to love those.
I would take him to the pet store with me and he would eat them like they were potato chips while we were waiting in line at the register. Crunch, crunch! He used to love those huge femur bones that you can buy too, but those can really stink.

13. My Rottie loves them, too.
But I have had to cut back on giving them to her, since she is getting too fat. When I first adopted her from a friend, she was a lean, mean 75 pounds. I took her to the vet last week for her annual shots and she now weighs 107 pounds. No more pig ears for a while.

12. They are really greasy though!
I don't feed them to my dogs too much anymore b/c they can be a choke hazard. One of my dogs chomps about three times and it is gone. And it ain't pretty when it comes back out. x(

My aunt's dog ate a whole bag (that dog would get into cans of food, even opened a closet and ate 4 bags of Easter candy). Needless to say, it cost her lots of money at the vet b/c the dog was in a permanent hunched over position!! But the dogs seem to love them.

14. Everytime I give them to my Rottie, I have to wash my hands.
Yuk!!! Greasy as hell and I am a vegetarian, but I don't make my doggie adhere to my diet.

16. Yes, washing the hands is a MUST!!
I think it would make it extra nasty being a veggie and feeling that grease on your hands!

15. I usually just try to make silk purses out of 'em, though.
But that's me.

Haven't been very successful at it recently, though.

17. My dogs fight over them
We stopped giving them pigs ears because of this. Now we got them hooked on Chicken Jerkey. They love it!

18. My dogs fight over everything we give them.
Edited on Wed Dec-21-05 02:31 PM by Shell Beau
They all want each other's toys or snacks. Plus they want to keep theirs. One time one of my dogs rounded up all of the toys and put them in a pile. He just sat there by the pile. He wasn't playing with any of them but wouldn't let the other one have a single one. He's always been kind of an ass. But I love that little ass!

19. Do we have the same dogs??
Your mini pins and my mini doxies need to get together and try and steal each other's toys. My older doxie loves to eat the toys to find the squeaker. I wish that was all that we would buy them - squeakers

20. That is the first thing that goes.
The squeaker. And they have toys with replacement squeakers, but by the time my dogs get through with a toy, all that is left is fuzz!! :)

21. *nodding* yup to those chicken jerkey's too......our wiener
dog loves those as well, she likes them both, but the jerkey's are her favorite. She'll turn up her nose at just the pig's ear, unless I say, Weezee, that's all your getting, then she'll take it and look at me like well, ok, if this is ALL I'm getting. :)
