OK, who's got a slate for this year's Oscar winners?
Capote, Brokeback Mountain and Good Night and Good Luck have some heavy hitters.

1. Also, Walk the Line
Joaquin Phoenix was fabulous as Johnny Cash, too.

8. The only other actor I could see winning and not want to kick some ass is:
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, for Capote. The guy is a great actor (he was Brandt in the Big Lebowski, my favorite movie of all time!) and it's about time he deserved some recognition for it.

10. I haven't seen Capote yet
But it's definitely on my list. I've seen the trailer for it, and PSH looks like he does an amazing job as Capote.

11. Same here.
I havent seen it either but it's on my list, as is all the other picks I mentioned.

King Kong will have to wait until DVD though, I dont think I have the attention span to sit in a movie theater for three hours!

5. I'm already projecting the Best Picture noms:
Good Night And Good Luck
Brokeback Mountain
Capote
Walk The Line
King Kong

And I'm betting that it will either be Walk The Line or King Kong.

13. You might substitute "Munich" for "Capote"
I don't know if "Capote" will get a Best Picture nomination. I certainly think Phillip Seymour Hoffman will get a very well deserved Best Actor nomination.

Otherwise, I completely agree with you choices.

17. I forgot about Munich
I'm sure that would work as well.

18. I thought about Munich, too, BUT
it has a very controversial theme (or it has been interpreted that way) that may offend more than a few in the Hollywood film industry, who decide the Oscars. So we can't hold our breath on that one. I am going to see it, however, this weekend. I like historical films that present complex themes, ones that make you think about many aspects of an issue or event.

9. I've seen all movies, except for Capote
If I had to pick a Best Picture right now, I'd have to go with either Brokeback or Good Night.

Best Actor: could be David Strathairn or Heath Ledger, but Joaquin Phoenix did a very good job indeed.

Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon really outdid herself.

When are the nominations coming out?

19. You HAVE to see Capote, then.
It will just blow you away. I remember the real Capote, since I lived in NY during his salad days, and this rendition is just amazing. I was stunned by this performance and the way he was presented in the film. I was also impressed by the moral lesson on this film. It made me think, which I think is important.

14. I'm hearing that Brokeback Mountain has a chance at best pic
... but, often, the momentum of the picture with the early buzz winds up petering out before Oscar night.

15. I'll be ecstatic if Joseph Gordon-Levitt gets nominated for
"Mysterious Skin", but I doubt that's going to happen. None of the films you've mentioned (or 'Walk the Line' for that matter) have opened here so I can't really comment, but I think they're probably going to feature strongly. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any real contenders from earlier in the year.
