What DUers have you met in the real world?
Edited on Wed Dec-28-05 10:42 PM by proud2Blib
I have met a bunch. Many have become pretty good friends. Just a year ago, I hadn't met any.

Now I know:

evlbstrd (funnier in person than he is online and a talented artist)

evl's brother (sorry can't remember his DU name)

MuseRider (went to Crawford with her, she is the BEST!)

Mabus (an awesome political activist whom I greatly admire)

Comer Perro (one of the smartest young kids I have ever met)

Gilmore (Comer's beautiful girlfriend)

scratchtasia (a really nice guy who has been coming to our meetups since we started them last year)

putout (a beautiful lady who is super fun to party with)

Hatrack (one of the most intelligent people on this website)

DancingBear (met him in Crawford - nicest guy EVER)

mwdem (moved to Texas unfortunately for us)

mopaul (a fabulous musician)

givemebackmycountry (very funny guy)

scout1071 (she lives close to me but I only met her once *hint hint - she needs to get her ass to
our meetups)

brainshrub (met him when I was in NC and he volunteered to show us around Asheville, for which I am still grateful)

Oh I am so sorry if I am forgetting anyone.

This is just my way of saying DUers are the best people ever. If you haven't met any, DO IT.

It is an espresso maker that brews one cup at a time. I am such an addict I don't make regular coffee at home - only espresso. My hubby calls it manly man coffee LOL

On edit - got the picture

16. I have talked to one local DUer on the phone, but...
I no longer have her number, and I haven't seen her post in months.

Not to many DUers in this neck of the woods. The state forum is often like a ghost town.

My best chance was when I was in Minnesota for a whole month in July, but it just didn't happen.

LOL It was that roller coaster!

19. Dammit. I'm supposed to be meeting one right now but some family drama
prevented me from making it out of the house in time.

Drama is happily resolved at least, but now I have to wait longer to finally hang out with another DUer. I've actually met the person, but only for a couple of minutes so it's not really the same. I was really looking forward to it too.

74. Thanks, P2B.
But looks aren't everything.
Bro's name is TazKCMO (I think).
I love our meetups. Maybe we should have them on Thursdays, when the Guiness is cheaper.
I couldn't find any DUers in DC, dammit. But I had already appointed myself Fearless Leader of my group from the bus, so I didn't look all that hard.

barbarann -- we met at one of Greg Palast's book signings. She's delightful!

I met Patiod and several others (I can't remember everyone's screen name) at JulieFest in Washington, DC. We had a great time, and I hope to see Patiod again sometime soon. She's the greatest. Of course, all the fun was very much enhanced by drinking Chinaco Anejo, which everyone knows is the Miracle of Canaan...

A central meeting place would be nice, like that pub last time a BA meeting was set up. However, this time, something near $th and King in SF would be good as the meeting place (not the motel).

They don't post often enough so their names will not be recognized.
I hope to meet you sometime soon and the rest of the KC bunch. And I can't wait for the day I get to meet Joani and MissHoneyChurch(it will happen).
And I'd love to meet Khash but most people would agree-we shouldn't even be allowed in the same state together w/o a nice sum of bail money hoarded away w/ a trusty source!

100. I have no way of listing everyone I've met and I've probably met the most
Mainly because of all the gatherings I've hosted:

3 in Philadelphia
2 in NYC (Including the RNC Convention protests)
3 in Washington DC (Sept 05 Protest, March for Choice April 04 and Oct 02 Protest)
(the ones in NYC and DC were associated with protests)

Along with those events, I've attended DU gatherings in NYC (a few additional ones), Boston (although not for the DNC - I couldn't get off work) and I've met up with DUers at a protest in Austin TX (it was before Camp Casey) and when I was on business in San Diego.

I would gander that I've probably met close to 200 DUers so for me to list them all would more than likely miss someone and I don't want to forget anyone.

But DUers I have met that are memorable of course are both Khephra and Birdman (two absolutely wonderful DUers who have passed away).

As for real-life friends I've met through DU the top two would be JimmyJazz & Ramsey - who I probably hang out with at least once a month. Oddly enough JJ and Ramsey have not met each other but I'm working on that. I think they would both get along really well. GalleryGod and MrBenchley are in the area and I wish we'd get together more often. Delarage goes to the same gym that I do (but I haven't seen him in awhile but probably because I've been going there earlier in the evenings). I know there are plenty of other DUers in the region (I really would love to meet SkipinNewarkDE and CyberPJ since they are both locals!)

And for DUers who I keep in touch with regularly by phone (distance prevents us getting together more often) would be Joan Alpern, GOPisEvil, NothingShocksMeAnymore, RBNYC and probably now MrsGrumpy since I have her phone number. Of course there are random calls with I'm with 2 or more DUers to many other DUers.

After the Sept2005 protest I'm not sure if I ever want to organize another DU gathering again. It takes alot out of you especially when it's a gathering related to large-scale events like the protests or conventions. But I'm sure I will again. Ramsey has an event coming up soon and we talked about inviting DUers in the area. And I'm hoping we can get the NYC gathering done in February or March. NYC is great because they have better dive bars than DC! Philly is always easy for Dive bars because we just go to Doobies!

But I'll say this much, if you haven't met any DUers, you really should go to a DU gathering and if there is none in your area then start one. I remember the first event I organized with Ramsey (which was the first major DU gathering since the website started). We had 84 DUers RSVP including Skinner, EarlG and Elad. But I was such a nervous wreck that on the Thursday before I almost was going to make a dumbass excuse to get out of the event just because I'm nervous about meeting new people. But I'm glad I went - it was an amazing blowout!! Everyone came except one family of 4 from Pittsburgh area (they have a family emergency). We rented out a section at the local Dave & Busters and had a buffet setup for everyone. Ramsey and I figured that since this was the first major one (there had been some smaller get-togethers) that we might as well do something memorable so people would get interested in hosting/attending events of their own even if it was just 2-3 DUers have a pint at the local pub.

I would have to say the best though was the September 2005 protest in Washington DC. I never expected so many DUers (There were close to 100 DUers coming to the Protest and about 75 made it to Hawk & Dove on Friday night) to attend and from all over the country (even Alaska and California was there). Even the Saturday Party at RFDs was not only a great turn out but we even had a Senatorial Candidate show up to our event (Chuck Penachio who is running in Pennsylvania).

Ok, that's my tales for DU events and how many people I've met. I don't think there is anyone at DU that can top the number of DUers met, but I'm hoping people get excited about trying to catch up!!

or have been tombstoned. (I actually haven't met shitloads in CT , just a few. most of the CT folks I met at Boston gatherings). I couldn't begin to list them all, especially all the ones i met in DC, where I have met DUers on at least 3 occasions. there were quite a few around Boston during the DNC convention also that I met.

And I found out that I once did some translation work for Bonobo before he signed on to DU, although I've never met him in person.
